I am a tax paying citizen and I don't want to be funding cancer treatments through medicare for people that like to lay in tanning beds when they know it causes cancer, so I say tax the CRAP out of it, tax the CRAP out of cigarettes and just about any other unhealthy option people want to pursue too. Its not fair for my health premiums and taxes to go up because someone wants a deeper darker complexion so I think it is my decision.

Be careful there hoss. Do you eat junk food? Sweets? Red meat? If you do, just wait. They'll be in YOUR pocket next because they deem those foods to be health hazards and they'll be taxing the CRAP outta you. Big Grin Don't just look at today without looking at what that may cause tomorrow.

Your real grievance should be with the fact that your money is funding Medicare. If you want to go down the road of stealing money from people who might do something that one day requires medical treatment, be prepared for your own money to be stolen and for everything you buy to cost more. And by the way, it's not your decision if we do things your way. It becomes the governments decision to decide what should be taxed and what should be treated.

Junk food should be taxed. Junk food is a luxury food that also happens to contribute to all of the wonderful health problems us overfed Americans are now accustomed to. If you want to feed your overweight kid a snickers bar that he in no way NEEDS, well then darn it, you should have to think twice about that decision in the form of a financial penalty.

People who fake tan, smoke, drink, don't excercise, and then stuff their face with high fructose corn syrup and processed foods are going to have more health problems then those of us who do not. Additionally, they are likely not going to be as productive of a citizen. These people end up mooching off society in the end, and they drive up the price of MY group insurance rates.

Let's just go ahead and tax being stupid. Let's force every American to take an intelligence test that is graded on a scale of 0-100. Your score is the percentage of your income you can keep. If you score a 20, you're obviously only smart enough to spend 20% of your money on your own, and smart politicians should spend the rest.

No but on a more serious note, I agree a tax is not ideal. Ideally, the government would stop subsidizing corn, which is what enables America to have so much cheap processed foods. This would essentially reduce the supply of sweeteners, which effectively raises the price of junk foods. Different from a tax, but the same end result.

Equating food tax to mass murder is ludicrous. Hitler comparisons are certain to lose you credibility.

Not understanding what you advocate is certain to lose your credibility.

So, you would not allow Einstein's parents to reproduce? Seems the German racial laws of the 1930's had the same goal.

Why don't you tell us your eating habits, hobbies, etc. I bet there are things you eat, drink or do that has a potential for harm that would cost us taxpayers money to care for you. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security that the government will crush everyone but you.
For the most part I eat and live a healthy lifestyle but if I am going live IRRESPONSIBLY and expose myself and use carcinogens/unsafe practices (e.g. tanning beds and cigarettes) then YES I should have to pay a tax on this stupidity. It shouldn't be looked at as a tax, it should be viewed as a penalty or a fine for being stupid and putting your safety at risk just like a seat belt fine.

Are you in favor of denying health care insurance to homosexual men ??? I'll bet you aren't, are you? THE most irresponsible and costly behavior on the face of the earth but you will refuse to punish them. Roll Eyes

I eat primarily whole foods (IE, not processed). I would say my diet comprises of mostly vegetables, fruits, and chicken from a responsible farmer. I do not purchase anything with high fructose corn syrup (that is much harder to do than it sounds), and I avoid bleached, processed flour whenever possible. On the rare occasion I decide to buy a bag of chips, I would not have a problem paying a tax for them. Same goes for the occasional glass of scotch that I enjoy. EDIT: To simplify, here is my general rule of thumb: I ususally don't buy it today, if I couldn't have bought it in 1950.

As for hobbies, I like to travel, play golf occasionally, basketball every Sunday, workout at 3 times a week. Catch the occasional flick.

Wow crash davis! Saying that about homosexuals is a very uneducated and prejudice statement. I work for a company that extends benefits to homosexuals (and I am glad we do because they are productive members of society) and I have close family and friends that are homosexuals and they are perfectly healthy people who practice safe sex or are in a monogamous relationship with their partner, so I don't think and neither does the rest of the educated free world think that their behavior is irresponsible.

In my personal opinion you don't know a homosexual or nothing about them, instead you are deriving your information from sterotypes and probaby regurgitating the opionion of your uneducated pastor at your local church. None of your quote above is grounded in any legitimate facts, figures or research and you can scour the internet and you will not be able to support anything in that prejudice statement you just made.

Most homosexuals I know take pretty good care of themselves and live a much healthier lifestyle than most of these fat heterosexual redneck republican beached whales buying their beer, soda, doritos and honeybuns down at the Wal-Mart and then piling their extra large butts in their recliners day in and day out smoking their cigarettes. Its the IRRESPONSIBLE life style of people like i just described that cost health plans and medicare money when their fat obese rear ends and their fat related injuries start showing up at our emergency rooms and doctors complaining about pain in their back, trouble breathing from cigarettes and extremeties in pain due to diabetes, not the homosexuals.

So no, I disagree with your bigotted statement at every level, I have no problem with paying for homosexuals to have healthcare because that is not an irresponsible lifestyle to live in 2010. So I guess you are right, I don't have a problem with it.

You libs are for taxing the crap out of people who eat cheeseburgers because they will burden the healthcare system. It is not bigoted (moron) to point out that male homosexuality is by far the major propagator of AIDS which could bankrupt the healthcare system on it's own if their behavior isn't modified. If that means you have to keep your pants on a little more often, then do it! If it means taxing the crap out of you, then so be it! Ahhh, it's fun to threaten libs with "taxing the crap out of you."liberal homosexuals. Roll Eyes

If, one considers the risky life style of so many, obviously, yes! AIDS could have been easily contained, if not for it.

You really should research better"

"n the United States, HIV infection and AIDS have had a tremendous effect on men who have sex with men (MSM). MSM accounted for 71% of all HIV infections among male adults and adolescents in 2005 (based on data from 33 states with long-term, confidential name-based HIV reporting), even though only about 5% to 7% of male adults and adolescents in the United States identify themselves as MSM.1,2

The number of HIV diagnoses for MSM decreased during the 1980s and 1990s, but recent surveillance data show an increase in HIV diagnoses for this group.3,4 Additionally, racial disparities exist with regard to HIV diagnoses within the MSM population. A recent study, conducted in 5 large US cities, found that HIV prevalence among black MSM (46%) was more than twice that among white MSM (21%).5

The recent overall increase in HIV diagnoses for MSM, coupled with racial disparities, strongly points to a continued need for appropriate prevention and education services tailored for specific subgroups of MSM, especially those who are members of minority races/ethnicities."
