well if I did not have to do any more actual labor than those folks, being outside might not be too bad. Something i observed just this afternoon. I had an errand at one of the businesses on Helton ,I noticed a group taking a break(cell phone use, drinking refreshments, sitting in the grass, etc),now I was in the business just over 45 min when I drive back by ,there they are STILL on a break,or whatever.
Si.
Big Grin

Translation...
Yes. We are paid per hour. More hours, more pay.
As long as we're physically on the job, we get paid. The longer we drag it out, the more money we can make to send back to Mexico and sneak the rest of our families over. Big Grin

Such a POOR Joke..... This seems to be an attitude of younger workers and yes foreign workers. We need better attitudes and pride in our work. I can't speak for all the workers just on Helton Dr.... Sure I would like to get back to using that street too. Hey bosses out there -------- Listen up to the attitude of your employees.
I'm going to pretend for a moment that this was not a rhetorical question. All the work on the bridge access roads is supposed to be finished in October.

As to people standing around, well that's normal for a government contract. One guy does "his job", while the others watch, then they take turns doing "their jobs". There is always a "boss" who stands around and does some actual bossing and fields all the complaints by the people who claim "I pay my taxes, too."

Does anyone remember the final year of widening Florence Blvd? I told CrustyWife that I learned exactly how long it takes two people to build a road. That is all you would ever see working.
This private contractor will finish as scheduled. There are weather, inspection and curing issues that must be respected that only time can cause expiration. If you don't understand the cause then don't comment on the result!

These workers are costing the contractor...not the taxpayer. It was bid and the lowest bidder received the contract.

The contractor will be either on time or early in delivery.

The contractors for the Florence Blvd/Helton Drive access roads have done, IMHO, a great job in maintaining access to the affected businesses, and keeping traffic moving on Florence Blvd.

I don't know how individual DG stores are owned, but if each is owned separately, I feel their pain. If the company owns them, or if someone owns a number of stores, then they should be able to absorb any losses without having to close the store.
