To come to my defense a little bit here, what you said, you used a blanket statement... but, I just figured you had been reading the posts on here for a while and DID pick up on our different personalities and ideas and opinions... That wasn't a put down, it was real.

A) I know the definition of Dogsoldier.
B) I served six years. Three active duty, as a combat engineer. I was assigned to a tactical nuclear weapon in German for one year, the year the Berlin Wall was built, One in Virginia when the Cuban Missile Crisis occured. We, The US armed forces, were the reason neither event turned into war.
C) I attained a Competitive Appointment to West Point and Resigned it after deciding that a Military Career did not suit me.
D) I AM EXERCISING THE RIGHTS I PROTECTED, AND WILL CONTINUE TO PROTECT.

Then, I congratulate you, Sir. You were deployed about the same time as my dad. He was stationed in Hanau, W. Germany in '63-'64 (Air Defense Artillery). You have my utmost admiration.

Let me make you aware of facts...you assume too much.

1. He confronted me in the parking lot...That reminded me of the time when my brother (who was 16 years old and just weeks or days away from his death at age 16) was propositioned by a gay in a mens bathroom in Regency Square Mall.
2. I was not armed at the time....nor was there any way I could harm him at the time, unless it was by fist or other body part. In fact, my firearms were over 100 miles away in storage at a friend's house.
3. I went back and informed the manager what happened, and warned that my home is my castle...he had better not come around me again, and yes, I will defend myself.
4. I considered it a done deal, and never had any more trouble, nor did I ever see him again. It has been 6 years plus 2 moves removed from when this happened.
5. Being in uniform, I figured he was trying to pull a stunt...as the "don't ask don't tell" policy was in the news at the time.

I consider it a dead issue. How was I to know what he was up to at the time? I consider it the same as a woman getting a very unwelcome proposition by another man (or lesbian).

And, away from this "issue", I DO own firearms, I KNOW how to use them, I am LICENSED to carry, and WILL defend myself, my family, and my home....The 2nd Amendment guarantees me that right, just like the 1st gives one the right to free speech (but not damaging- i.e. lies, "fire!!" in a theater, etc).

Brentenman I have been waiting for this reply from you since very early this morning. I was interested to see how you would try to squirm your way out of the egregious remarks you posted, and have since deleted I see. You sir are a moral coward and a bully, uniform or not. DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT wrap your disgusting attitudes in the Flag or in the uniform you disgrace. I am retired Army, as are my sons. You do NOT represent any of the fine service men and women that I have ever served with. You disgrace us by your affiliation. It is perfectly okay... I have done the same thing. The bad thing about TYPE is that one doesn't have the benefit of eye contact or facial expression and those things help actually READ the person much better. Here all we have is the typewritten word, which is very easy to misunderstand.

Although I do not know the earlier comment you are referring to, I think that Brentenman just poured his heart out on this post.... in the only way a man knows to do, and that is to explain. I am not sure why you are so down on his Military life in your reply though... And you said you didn't make threats, but that sounded like one to me...

Just as I stated: You MUST believe in God AND the Bible. You MUST believe that what is written in Genesis, by Moses, was inspired by God. I realize not all that post here believe that.

Kindred Spirit, I know your heart is in the right place and I enjoy your posts. However, I disagree here. Just because one is in the military doesn't make them a hero or an honorable person. We all the time are hearing about OUR soldiers raping and killing innocent women and families. Do you consider them heroes? Adolph Hitler was a military man and I don't think he qualifies as a hero to most people either. I've been reading Brentenman's postings for a long time now, including the board when it was on the older format. This leopard is not going to change his spots without some major therapy.

Why does he NEED to 'change his spots'? He's an INDIVIDUAL with a RIGHT to his PERSONAL beliefs and feelings....just as you and I. Why does HE need to conform to someone ELSE's ideas as to what is 'right and wrong'?

Thanks for the compliment, and I do agree that we do have some people, even in our Military who does NOT do the right thing, no doubt. But where to place that blame would be with their trainers, they go through such extensive training that no one on here can fathom... I came from an entire family of Military people, I know the horrors that they themselves have to endure.

And as far as Brentenman, well, first off, I have known him a long time and I could SEE for myself that he was having an 'off' day, and that he had a lot of frustration built up in him. I know a part of the reason, but of course, not all of it because he and I do talk some.

He is facing having to do yet ANOTHER tour over in Iraq, that would be so difficult to face... not that he would complain about that, but he is a human being, and we have to try to understand that. He does his job, no IFS, no ANDS and no BUTS, because he was trained so proficiently to do just that... And there is no doubt that if and when he does get there, that he will be one of those who make us proud.

BUT, on the other hand, I blame the attitude of our enlisted on our Political Figures!!! They set the mindset for all of us, they are in a place that they should NOT have EVER started, not have EVER tread, and our Military guys have no choice but to go along. Do you realize what happens to any of them who refuse to do their jobs? Isn't like us, we just get fired, they get ripped of basically being a human being... yet again another problem with our Political Leaders.

Anyway, the reason I can be so understanding with Brentenman is he really IS friendship material and he really is a nice guy but unlike us, the frustration levels of the military is magnified many times over....

THAT is how I can dismiss any rant or rave he does, even toward me... yep me too, lol... read back on some of the other posts, he and I have had many disagreements, but remained online friends....

And, like dogsoldier said... he has the RIGHT to be how he wants to be, just as you do, just as I do, just as we all do...

Maybe each and every one of us should take a step back and start over .... because this post HAS gone full circle...

If you follow so many of those stories you will see the multi-millions of dollars spent by the church on settlements.
How does monetary settlements compensate that sort of behaviors has been a big question for me.
