IE7 was my friend. It took me until I just couldn't do anything with it to upgrade to 8. YA'd think there'd be some backwards compatibility in these browsers they roll out every so often (before the bugs are ironed out). Most times, like with IE7, ya can't easily revert back if ya need to.
Hi Puppy,
You will find that software companies, such as Microsoft, will maintain compatibility with previous software for a while. Then, they reach a cut-off point where it is typically compatible upward, but not backward. A good example is Word or Office. Office 2000 (with Word) was fine until Microsoft got to Office 2007. Then, they invented a new extension called .docx and used this in place of the .doc extension. This meant that those documents created with .docx extensions could not be opened on Office 2000 or Office 2003 which was looking for a .doc extension.
I am helping a friend write letters and resumes in his job search. When his computer crashed and he bought a new one -- it had Office 2007. Then, he and I could not swap documents. We finally found a way -- but, it was painful for a while.
Microsoft did this a couple of years ago with their Hotmail software. A friend called me in panic. She could no longer read her Hotmail e-mails. When I began to research her problem, I found page after page of hate mail against Microsoft. Turns out, they had changed their software to only work on systems that had a 1024 X 768 screen resolution -- and many people were still using 800 X 600 screen resolution.
The main complaint is that Microsoft did this change -- and did not notify their users. Suddenly there were thousands of people whose Hotmail e-mail did not work. My friend was still using Windows 98; so, I upgraded her to Window XP and set her screen resolution for 1024 X 768 and she was okay. But, why didn't Microsoft notify its users?
Anyway, there will always be points in time when two different software packages stop being friends -- such as IE8 and the new Forum software. Like you, I wanted to use IE, but, was forced by necessity back to Foxfire.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill
