TD's front page is much faster if you install the AdBlock Plus Firefox extension, then block the stock ticker. The stock ticker is a Java Applet, which means your computer has to load the browser plug-in before the page can be used. That takes a few seconds even on my work computer. There are also some offsite scripts and files that slow down the site to a crawl.

AM, is an applet really the best way to pull off a stock ticker?

It is the dozen or so front-side javascripts that play a big part of the slow down on the page load.....coupled with the animated gifs, tables, 427 errors on the home page alone ( http://validator.w3.org/ .....that's only AFTER the proper character encoding has been specified to their markup....i.e., <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> ) and the enormous server calls.

The lack of the mime also prevents any CSS validation as well.

In comparison, the end user's connection speed, bandwidth and browser type have very little to do with the page loading speed. If TD would use proper markup, page loading speed would be a non-issue.

A true computer support answer - but not the answer here.
When I say slow I mean in comparison to all other sites I visit.
I think BradshawBruin02 has the fix.
It all started with the pop-ups and I did notice the stock ticker not appearing quickly as well.
Hey AM: My "stall" comes when I use the SEARCH feature on the HOME page. Every other time I fly from page to page, but when I put in an item to search on, it will take up to eighty seconds IF it even finds anything. Most of the time it goes to PAGE NOT FOUND. This has only been going on for about two to three weeks - it used to work great.
Thanks for your attention to this!
