Hi to my Forum Friends,
On the Religion Forum, I began a discussion titled "Public Schools: For Teaching - Or Indoctrination?" and in that discussion a Forum Friend, who tells me he is a Christian but refuses to go to church, who has a great distaste for conservative Christians, and who declares the Bible to be just a book of symbolism and myths, asks the question which he feels will stump all conservative Christians:
"If homosexuality is such a horrible sin, then why isn't there a commandment against it? Why didn't Jesus say anything about it?"
That is a great question -- and, guess what? That is in the Ten Commandments! And, Jesus did address that issue.
If you will notice, in Exodus 20:12,"Honor your father and your mother" -- the Fifth Commandment.
Jesus compressed the Ten Commandments into two, to make it easier for us to understand and follow them.
Matthew 22:37-40, "Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.' "
If we look at these two readings of the Ten Commandments, we will find that He compressed the first four, which pertain to our relationship with God, into His new first commandment.
And, He compressed the last six commandments into His new second commandment, our relationship with other people.
So, when we look at these two groups, we find the first beginning with, "You shall love the Lord your God." That establishes our relationship with God.
And the second group begins with, "Honor your father and your mother." That establishes our relationship with family and with all other people.
Notice that He does not tell us to honor our "two mommies" or our "two daddies" -- but, to honor "our Father and our Mother." He is telling us that the God ordained family has one father and one mother, the foundation of the spiritual, stable family. And, the spiritual, stable society -- IS built upon strong families, strong Godly families.
My Friend, if you will just lay aside all your prejudices and study the Bible with an open, seeking, sincere heart -- you will find that, in the Bible, God has addressed every issue, every question, which may arise in our daily lives. Why don't you give it a real try and see what a change God can make in your life?
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill
