Mind you that fifty cents isn't very much money in today's world but honesty and doing business in an upfront way is. Today I was quoted one price for a to go container of food and told, before I filled it, that I could mix items and whatever I got in the container would cost $2.00 (based on the size of container I chose). After I filled it though I was charged another price because I mixed items in the container and didn't just fill it with one item. This was after I specifically ask, to the very employee that priced the items and told me I could mix them at no extra cost.

Her reason for charging more was she said you could only mix at no extra cost in the largest container but even though I held the smaller container up, right in front of her face, and she said you could mix items at the one price she changed the price at the register.

I don't plan on returning and encourage anyone reading this to just beware that their prices change from what they quote you and on this day did not do a very honest business. It wasn't that much money but it's more the principal of when you are told something, to your face then you expect the business to follow through on their word. Even when I explained that I held the very container up in front of her and she didn't deny making the mistake she never corrected it by charging what she said but rather I had to pay the higher price. That's my fault but at least i can control that it won't happen again.

Beware of the Hong Kong Buffet, 3372 Cloverdale Road in Cypress Square as their prices are subject to change between the time you order and check out.

I actually wondered if they'd put the food back on the buffet. Surely not. PLEASE tell me they wouldn't do that! Eeker

Fair and legitimate question. I really wanted to leave it there for them to decide what to do but the reason(s) I chose to just take it was for one it was my wife and granddaughter (who ask for it) that requested I stop and get it there. Additionally I didn't know if they would toss it or put it back on the bar. As one stated above I would hope they wouldn't but the reason I went ahead and took it is my wife and granddaughter wanted it and fifty cents wasn't worth keeping them waiting for me to run to the Rice Box and get them a to go order. Also I knew I had other avenues of action to express my feelings of being lied to my face. I personally don't care too much for Chinese and when I go for Chinese it's always to the Rice Box so I knew they wouldn't get much more of my business as it was.

The main point is, I don't like to be lied to and I detest dishonesty especially to my face. It wasn't the fifty cents that was the problem but more the fact I was lied to. My actions were thus. Post this on the food board, write a personal letter addressed to the owners/management at the Hong Kong Buffet describing what happened and then making an online complaint via the Better Business Bureau website and form.

The resolution that I stated that I wanted from Hong Kong was that the owners POST in plain sight the prices and policy of their take out, price it above or by the containers they provide. I also included a copy of this post as well as a copy of the BBB complaint in the personal letter to Hong Kong Buffet.
