And waitress with tight & low neck tee shirts on. I've been in one before, I know what they look like. I bet most men would not go with their wife to a place where the waiter's were bare chested & wore speedo's. Most men would pitch a fit if their wife went alone or with her friends.

Have you seen what girls in highschools are wearing? I do every afternoon when I pick up my kids. What they wear during P.E. and what the cheerleaders, danceline etc. wear while practicing. Same or less than Hooters girls. I don't remember the girls wearing what they do now back when I was in school. Complain about that not about a stupid restaurant. Complain about the video's on MTV they watch, not a wings restaurant.

LOL, Why would you complain about MTV and school dress at a FOOD TALK FORUM, rofl that is truely "nuts"

I am all for a Hooters opening in the Shoals. People drive a long way to eat at Hooters.
My point was to complain about something worth complaining about, not some stupid wing restaurant.
Nuts

Don't you see that the "stupid wing restaurant" (as you described it in another post) is yet another message to them that not only does society approve of such, but condones and even REWARDS it? [Note: Those rewards are in fact oppressive, but that's another discussion.]

When these girls and teenagers go to a restaurant where the people who bring those wings are purposely sexualized by means of dress, make-up, etc., doesn't that send a very specific and influential message?

Mind you, I take no issue with adults sexualizing themselves. I DO take issue with the exploitation of women via sexualization and subsequent commodification.

The girls and young women in the examples you provide most likely want to show off their bodies (as opposed to their minds) only because they know that's what supposedly "works" for them in a partriarchal society. In other words, that's the behaviour they've seen rewarded by everyone from their parents to their peers. It's not nature; it's nurture. So yes, even a "stupid wings restaurant" like Hooters plays a role in the perpetual degradation of women.

Wow, another argument about whether or not Hooters is going to send all women into ****ation. It's a food chain, they wear less clothing than some others, big deal.
If I don't like something I don't partake in it. Why can't the Hooters haters just NOT partake. Why must the Hooters supporters do without because the Hooters haters dislike for the franchise?

It's not like if Hooters did come to the shoals that all of the sudden your house would be overridden with scantly dressed 20 somethings. Your husbands might actually ENJOY a meal sometime and you might benefit from the trip.

Seriously, if something as innocent as a tight pair of shorts and a low cut shirt bothers you, I seriously doubt you are "handling" things in the bedroom.

Stop being Bible Thumpin Prudes and let us MEN have what we want. A cute girl in tight clothes serving us food. What is SOOOOOO wrong with that?

BTW, my wife doesn't like Hooters, she refuses to eat there, but she has never once cared if I did. She's just not insecure like that.

Nope. Nothing said about ****ation. That suggests a religious discussion, one in which I have no interest in engaging.

It IS a big deal; whether you like it or not, the systemic exploitation of women by a food chain affects ME and ALL FEMALES, including young girls, whether we "partake" or not.

Last I checked, you could go to a Hooter's if you wanted to.

If my house were suddenly overridden with scantily-clad 20-somethings, I'd fit right in.
The point is whether one is REQUIRED to be "scantily-clad" in order to serve food.

Oh, dear. So you're telling me that if I'm not okay with women being exploited or degraded or used as a money-maker in a predominately male-owned business, it must be because I'm not satisfying a man? That's such a pitiful argument that I can't even slap a latin term on it for fear that it would shame the argumentative fallacy label.

[Brief digression: "Husband"? So you've ruled out the possibility that I'm a lesbian? Razzer]

I'm no bible thumper, and I'm no prude. I don't care about what gets YOU to heaven or hell; I have no place in that discussion. Do whatever you want, and I'll support your right to do so - UNLESS you hurt people in the process.

It makes little sense to go to Hooters and then complain about why one's wife, girlfriend, children, nieces, neighbor's kids, etc. dress the same way. (As you'll recall, this was the matter at hand on which I was commenting.) Sorry. You can't logically have it both ways.

Only the exploitation, degradation, and commodification...other than that, not a **** thing. Again, it's the job REQUIREMENT that is the problem.

Your statements imply that whether or not a woman cares if a significant other chooses to patronize Hooters is based solely on her degree of security within that relationship. Such is not the case. Furthermore, not only is that a false assumption, but it's yet another indicator of your phallocentrism.

e, I am sorry you feel this way about Hooters. I just don't see it the way you envision it. It is fun, but a big reason I go out to eat is to enjoy it. If the food was not good, I would not want to go, plain and simple.
There is many nice restraunts where the attire is simalar to Hooters. I don't go to these places for that reason, and I don't go to Hooters because of it as well. Just a name.
If the "scantily clad" girls aren't the main thing we are going for, then go to Sidelines. It's the same concept, just more upscale and the girls wear a few more inches of material.
I am a girl and I like going to Hooters.
I don't take Hooters so serious to think that they are holding us women back. Did you know that they will actually pay for your "job requirements". If anything I think that would help a poor girl out, that gets pricey. The girls then go on to make some really good money.
Hooters is fun, but I think I will support local business owners.
I'm not going to quote everything you said but you know who I am talking to.

So the requirement of the outfit is your issue?

So using that as a basis for your argument, are you too against, cheerleading, gymnastics, track, women's volleyball (not just the beach version though I like it best), swimming, diving, modeling, ballet (those are some tight outfits), tennis, Miss America, Miss USA, Miss World, Miss Teen USA, and among others, boxing (they basically fight in a sports bra)?
All of which require much LESS clothing than a hooters girl.

Your argument is flawed. If you instill values in your little girls by being a good parent, your little girls will have good values. No food chain where a girl wears a tight shirt and short shorts will override direct and good parenting. Trust me, until my daughter moves out, I will be the one buying the clothes, and thus I am the one controlling what she wears or doesn't wear, therefore there will NOT be a complaint that they dress "just like them".

As far as you stopping me from eating at Hooters, the question was more from a stopping Hooters from coming to where I am (the Shoals) rather than stopping me from going there, but you already knew that didn't you?

Yeah, she does mind. She's just too insecure (or knows YOU too well) to complain.

I don't give a hoot if you want to go to Hooter's. I think the whole thing is cure. (I know, e wants to smack some sense into me!) Life is short, look at cute girls (or boys) if you want to! Just don't "touch the rabbits'.

okay i think you hit on the MAIN problem so many women are having with Hooters. Insecurity.
I certainly do not hear any complaints on bikini commercials, womens undergarmet commercials. Ahhhh but those pose no 'real' threat do they, thats just TV. LOL I am finding this big argument over a resturant the most absurd one yet.
You don't approve of it, don't go. Its that simple. And if you got the leash tight enough, your man cannot go either, problem solved!

Or maybe she just figures you wouldn't have a shot at one of the Hooter's anyway, let you dream?

I think it is more that after ten years, she knows I'm coming home. She's not worried about me straying because she doesn't have to.

We approach those situations differently than most. Our approach is simple, worry about it if it ever happens, until then, live with peace of mind that it hasn't.
