I know that there are some that would be surprised to find out that I actually do eat at home at times but I do.  One of the things that I enjoy most is a good Hot Dog either at home or out.  When I eat out I usually like to chose Sam's Club deli to get a Hot Dog at for their serve Nathan's 1/4lb Hot Dogs and it's very economical.  A 1/4lb hot dog and large drink for under $2.00 isn't that bad and I don't think you even have to be a Sam's Club member to eat at their deli.

That said I thought I'd share what I thought are the best Hot Dogs to purchase and have at home.  As for myself I usually always purchase the All Beef type Hot Dogs and I find that the Angus Beef seems to be the best tasting.  My choices for the Best Hot Dogs are, in order of how I like them and usually choose to buy them.

  1. Ball Park Angus Beef Hot Dogs
  2. Grillman's Black Angus
  3. Nathan's 1/4lb Hot Dogs - unfortunately I think they are only available at Sam's club but only recently have they started selling them from their cooler/freezer section where you can take them home and prepare them.  Before you could only get them in their deli or in bulk, from the deli, and it wasn't practical to have them at home.  They differ from the Nathan's you find at most stores in that they are 1/4lb and they are thicker than the usual ones you see at the stores.
  4. Ball Park Deli Style Hot Dogs
  5. Oscar Mayer Premium Beef Hot Dogs (the key here is PREMIUM)
  6. Boar's Head, Natural Casing all beef frankfurters
  7. Hebrew National Fat free beef Hot Dogs

As far as the method to cook them in order to achieve the best tasting Hot Dog I prefer one of two methods.  Frist, depending on the thickness of the Hot Dog, I like to use this Hot Dog toaster that I purchased.   It's not that expensive and looks like a toaster for Hot Dogs but does a great job at grilling the Hot Dog while toasting the bun.  You can do two Dogs at a time.

I also have a T-Fal Grill which is very similar to the George Forman grill and is of the same type but it does a great job at cooking many different items from Hot Dogs to paninis and actually grills steaks to perfection.

I also like to grill the hot dogs on the patio gas grill.  I also know some people that like to cook their hot dogs in the oven or broil them using the broiler pan that come with many ovens.   Although I don't have one I have seen these hot dog steamers that cook the hot dog with steam and at the same time steam the bun.  I have also been cautioned against microwaving the Hot Dog or boiling them as I've been told this removes some of the salt content in the hot dog and takes away some of the natural taste.  I don't know about that but I just usually cooking them by one of my preferred methods, above, works out faster and better.

Bon appetit
