If you'll remember, May was the same idiot who insisted those three UNA students were responsible for the murders of Joey Pugh and his dad on Cane Creek. That entire case was built on the testimony of a single informant who gave the FBI no information that wasn't in the newspaper. As I recall, when the Russellville PD caught one of the actual killers, it took weeks and a couple of confessions to convince May that his three 'suspects' were not involved. At least one of those boys' life was ruined, and very nearly the other two.
It may not be Ronnie May, that is so Dumb, but the Voters that vote 80% for him. maybe they really are the Dumb ones. Oh yes he goes to all the right places, shakes hands, smiles . So many times I have saw in the TD remarks or statements from him that really is Dumb. Like saying he is scare of someone driving fast down a hill on 43 & may kill someone coming out of a Bussness . Stop the fast drivers comeing down the Hill !!, like making a raid on a so called drug house around 2pm on a Wed. afternoon, with only one old man there & no drugs. ever thro he stated on the week ends as many 30 to 40 cars there from all across N. W. Alabama, most likely trading things taken from ya'll for Drugs. No I have no repect for him, Untell you had dealing as I did, ya'll wouldn't understand .
WHNT may have mixed something up when publishing the report. I understand that there are those working in the Sheriff's office that are disgruntled with how May is running the department. If so, don't get on forums and bash him or discredit him publicly...leave the department or run for Sheriff yourselves. Many know May in this community and know how lucky we are to have a civil servant like him. That's why he gets elected and re-elected.

Here it is. May is incompetent. If Colbert Co. elects him, they deserve him.

I hope the people who were victimized by this woman will somehow get restitution.
I have been involved with a Baptist Prison Ministry for over 20 years. During that time I've met and tried to help many women. This lady was one of them. I don't know what was wrong in her life that she always returned to crime, but I do know something is extremely odd with her being on this list and what the list states.

My frist grandchild was born in October 1996. At that time GC was in the Tuscumibia Jail being held by Colbert County. She was transferred to Tutwiler a short time after that, where she later escaped. Any 1996 Colbert County warrants should have been taken care of when she was arrested in Colbert County in 1996.

Since this woman was incarcerated for years, I cannot fathom why May would not have checked his records if he was truly trying to get these warrants cleared up. When GC died she was on parole. I know enough about such things to know that the arresting county is always notified of parole hearings and parole releases. Then, as someone else said, her photograph was in the papaer when she died.

If this is how Ronnie May runs his office, the citizens of Colbert County should demand his resignation.

It's never just "someone's" fault -- they always blame the top man on the totem pole. Apparently he is supposed to read every BOLO, piece of paper, notice and answer every phone call to handle everything himself for his department. Then when one of his men screws up royally and he goes to punish him -- he is called a racist and incompetent...He has done a pretty good job in office -- apparently -- or he wouldn't have gotten elected so many times to the position.

I am sorry for the family's pain, but then again, what about all of the victim's of this woman's...somehow I just can't muster any animosity about someone that is dead and still being held accountable for her actions...if you did the crime and she paid for the crime -- end of story...who cares what the Sheriff did after the fact...had she not been a criminal he wouldn't have had her name and a warrant for her at all in the first place...
Ronnie May is a nice man! However his time has come to give up his seat and maybe retire and enjoy his family. There comes a time when you can be so burnt out or stressed that you do overlook things. I doubt that someone set him up to make him look this dumb, he more than likely did that on his own with simple oversight. He does make me think of Barney, he gets super excited when something major happens and he jumps the gun so to speak. I admit that I voted for him, and I will say that he is the last Democrat I will vote for. I will stick to my weird Republican Party! Razzer
It takes more intelligence to serve a term as sheriff than it does to spout criticism when you don't have a clue. Throw your hat in the ring, spend your money and energy convincing the voters you are the best candidate in the race, serve a term, carry the load, then you will be qualified to critize. It is not as easy as it appears.
YOU CAN'T

Take the POLITICS out of POLITICS...I am sure there are a lot of politicians who would love to be able to that...pressing flesh to keep your job is known as brown nosing and butt kissing in other professions...call it what you may...but it has the same smell...

I have know Ronnie for a long time and work with him on many cases....He was a good investigator and a still is a good law enforcement officer..
Sorry! to inform you, but things do get dropped and over looked even in law enforcement inspite of all of their efforts...I am sure Ronnie would have loved to clear up those papers if it had come to his attention...but he depends on his office to do certain things...sometimes those things do not get done...end of story...

I have known many Sheriffs in Colbert County and been involved with them one way or the other..Ronnie May is probably the most honest sheriff Colbert County has seen in years...I didn't say he did not make administrative mistakes...

For those of you who make blanket statements of corruption, you need to contact the ABI or the FBI with your information and have it looked into...if your smoke has fire it will become known...if you are just blowing smoke because you don't personally like Ronnie in an attempt to discredit his character you are one totally miserable creature...

The Sheriff is not required to look at any parole announcement....usually the department will be notified by the DA's office or state of a parole hearing...
This can be done by email, etc...if the Sheriff Department Personnel does not read the email or other notification they would not be aware of it...
I'm not sure how Ronnie has his staff handles this information...
It is a political office and sometimes favors are done...these favors given do not break the law.
Example...
Someone may be allowed to turn themselves in, instead of doing the perk walk...

Civil papers delayed because the individual needs time to get a lawyer...

Recommendation's given to the judge for a lesser fine or confinement...

I have seen all of the above in the Sheriff Department I was with in Birmingham..

The failure to identify any individual with outstanding warrants who is locked up in your jail falls back on the jail administrator, whomever that is...This should be a standard operating practice as to do a warrant search through NCIC on inmates...
Criminal histories should also be done. If an individual has a leaning toward violent behavior that individual needs to isolated from the general population.
It appears that way.. If I was the Sheriff, I would be highly upset with the Chief Deputy about blantant miscues...
This is probably a consistent problem with other issues also...

If your staff does not perform their job...and you continually allow it to go on...then that is a weakness within the management structure of the individual regardless of who they are, and this includes Ronnie.
Efficiency of a department is more important that ego or hurt feelings....if a person is not doing their job...they need to be replaced with someone who will...bottom line...

If a Sheriff is not doing his job in a consistent manner...then the voters have the opportunity to vote him out of office and replace him with someone else...that is the nature of the beast...no one is above that standard...
Even Ronnie, who I count on as a friend...
How does the Voters know of what kind of Job any Sheriff does or don't do if they never hear of it. If any Sheriff tells you first time you ever talked to him when you only ask about some drug charges & drugs of a person in a case. And he tells how many times he has flushed Drugs, and saids it's because his D A is not taking cases to Jury Grand for indictments & ammits it makes him look like he not doing his Job .. The Jobs I have thru the years , if someone was making me look like I was not doing my job . It would not be for long !! Now as I have ask before who gets drugs charges droped & flushed & who does not, what records are kept of the amount of Drugs Flushed for accountablity ? I am not acusing anyone of wrong doing, but as a Voter & Victim . I do not see this is a unfair Quesstion. And if not scared of the voters knowing of the truth, why make a Call the day before and stoping someone from speaking at a church & school in Colbert Co. in hopes of maybe saving one young person, maybe even your child or grandchild , telling them of the Dangers of Drugs . I had no reason to feel as I do , I as most all of you only knew what I would see on TV or read in the TD . I do know some of you are true friends. Some times even best of friends has not ideal of what is going on or care.
Bamafnatk...
What you just described is not unusual...Our prisons are getting full and the court systems are backed up.
When this happens, the DA has to cull the cases as to which one needs to be prosecuted and for what...The Sheriff does not get to pick...Law Enforcement officers built cases...DA's decide if they want to prosecute or not...I can not tell you the number of cases and charges that have either reduced to a lower charge with fine only or not prosecuted at all...
Most Law Enforcement agencies have a system of accountability as to what they confiscate, when and how the item is destroyed...I am sure Ronnie has a system also....
After a while the officers get a ideal of which cases the DA will go after...the rest they just flush down the camode...
That is the nature of the beast...like or not...
