How Reliable Are We On Computers, What If

If the sun gave a surge or something like that was to happen and wipe out computers information. Lost data to bank accounts, lost data to medical records, lost data to law-enforcement records, lost data to investments, lost data to airplane commands, lost data to just about everything. Could it happen, and what would happen if it did. I know some has backup disk, but would it be enough.

That is a scary thought. I suppose it is possible, under all sorts of circumstances.

Sunspots aren't strong enough to wipe data. Such a surge from the sun would remove the atmosphere. Breathing would be you biggest problem.

A EMF storm from nukes might be more realistic, which leaves one with an entirely different set of problems. BTW, most cars wouldn't work. Most governments and corporations backup their data under continuity of operations programs.

Yes, a number of such were retrieved from the Twin Towers after 9/11. Melted gold and diamonds were usually salvageable. Most copies of data are kept off site, some in old mines.
