From the Washington post:
"Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee got his facts wrong when he claimed twice during an interview Monday that President Obama was raised in Kenya.
During an interview with The Steve Malzberg Show, Huckabee said the president, "having grown up in Kenya," would have a different - more hostile - perspective on the British:
I would love to know more. What I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American.
He repeated the claim, saying:
...if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."
First, Obama did NOT grow up in Kenya, as Huckaby should have known. Here is the desperate and dishonest spin Huckabee's spokesman placed on the matter"
"Governor Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in 'Kenya.' The Governor meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia."
Oh, sure, and I suppose the Huckster "misspoke" the rest of what he said when he uttered THIS:
"...growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours..."
Huckabee did NOT just misspeak, as in using "Kenya" for "Indonesia." The above- quoted material clearly shows that he had Kenya in mind, what with the reference to the grandfather and the Mau Maus. No slip of the tongue there. It is obvious what Huckabee MEANT to say!
By the way, even IF Obama had come away from discussions with his family about the Mau Maus with the notion that, "the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather,"
he would have come away with a CORRECT perception. The British were indeed imperialistic and did repress and persecute the inhabitants of nations that they conquered, enslaved, and otherwise subjugated in their relentless quest for empire.
