Dog, I really don't want to get into an argument , but in the Genesis account, Cain killed Able (1/4th the population of Earth) , then pleaded with God to protect him from people wanting to kill him. As I recall, God gave him the "mark of Cain". to protect him from others.
Cain then went into the land of Nod where he married.
Seems to me there are a whole lot of missing pieces if you take the Genesis account literally.

Try this on for size:
After millions of years, man evolved to a state where he could tell right from wrong and it was time for God to give him a spirit. We know all animals have a body and a soul (intelligence) but mankind has a spirit with which to communicate with God.
So , God "breathed life (spirit) in the man".
Obviously there were lots of other humanoids around, but Adam was special in that he received a spirit directly from God.
Works for me .

The problem here is that you are using a internet forum to attempt to find truth. I invite you to pick up a science book from a legitimate scientific source and learn on your own so that will will not appear so foolish if you bring this up in public again.

NOW who looks 'foolish'?

Back to the question that you ducked: Which theory has been 'proven'?

Ah, so we are resorting to grammatical attacks to disprove evolution. Nice. That should be "YOU will" of course.

Dog there is no other theory than evolution due to natural selection, sir. It has been so thoroughly proven that no educated person can possibly deny it. The key word is "educated."

For those that are uneducated on the subject, you should just accept the fact so as to not embarrass yourself just as I choose not to comment on internal combustion engines when in the company of mechanics. I am forced to agree that engines that use controlled explosions to move a 5000 pound mass are perfectly safe despite the obvious danger.

Not magic. God willed it and it was so.

Exactly. His will is called "evolution."

Contrary to what you have been led to believe the theory of evolution gives the educated Christian a glimpse into the miraculous mind of God Himself.

In this 21st century we no longer have to shield our faith from science. They can work hand in hand but only if you choose to learn.

I have no problem with the 'other people' you mention. I freely acknowledge that Moses left a lot of information out of Genesis, only recording 'the important stuff'. Have a nice day.

In all likelihood Moses didn't write the Torah, but it was passed down word of mouth until the captivity in Babylon. Many of the story's in the Genesis report have similar story's in ancient Babylon in clay tablets that predate the Bible by hundreds, maybe thousand of years.
Some scholars believe that the oral traditions were written down by Jewish scholars during the captivity, who may have been influenced by the Samaritan writings of the time.
Periodically the History Channel does some really good documentaries on Bible history, and it's origin. Whatever your prior teachings are, most of these give very good insite as to how some of the writings came about, and are well worth a view and consideration. I have found that while they may challenge what I thought I knew about the origin of certain scriptures, they do not challenge my overall belief.

The one thing I now detest about my religious upbringing is that any attempt to 'explore and investigate' other beliefs...even for the sake of argument...was condemned.

True for most of us, Dog. But my faith is strong and must be strong to stand up to the truths of things like evoluiton and the origins of my faith.

Yes, of course evolutino is a threat to a person's faith. But only if that person's faith is the kind that is so prevalant in this area that opposed anything scientific. Fundamentalism.

When you realize that science is the exploration of God's mind and the religious history is man's attempt to refine his understanding of a God, then it becomes easy to shield your faith from disbelief.

Cool thing that you are looking at the Jewish faith. It is the granddaddy of all western religions.
Genesis 1:28 (NIV)
God blessed them (man) and said to them "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it ..... "
I would interpret "subdue it" to mean : find out all it's secrets (laws of nature) , use them for your benefit, develop technology from those secrets on how to cure illness and anything else you need it for.

I'm not attempting to add to Scripture, just my interpretation .
(of course that's in the first account of the creation of man)

Dog, ask your Jewish friend what he knows about Lilith (Adam's first wife) Eeker
