Anyone who travels Hwy 72 in East Lauderdale needs to watch out for a speed limit change westbound near Brooks High School. The 55 mph zone has been changed to start where the school zone starts. There are new 55 mph signs, but currently no warning signs to indicate the reduced speed ahead. The area is also being heavily patrolled by both marked and unmarked State Trooper vehicles. If you are used to the speed limit changing closer to Killen, you might miss the sign and get caught in their trap.

Well , what's the BIG deal here? They see me breezeing up and down the Hwy every single day coming and going several times a day.

If they saw me they all just say hey neighbor. LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have decided the only ones they really catch are the ones going to the extreme trying to out run everybody or reckless driving.

The speed limit has always been 55 from the beginning of the school zone on the eastside of Brooks High School going west through Killen.

I have always gone 60 and they don't bother me.
Sorry HDB, but you seem to have your directions backwards. The 55 speed limit has been through the school zone for years if you are going EASTBOUND. West bound 55 mph started where the guardrail is across from the old Pettus Museum. That is where the signs warn you of reduced speed ahead. If you don't want to believe me that's OK, just go ahead and LOL when you get a ticket.

This is true, most of the time at 60 you are not going to get stopped. It is when you are going noticably faster than the speed limit.

I didn't make any comments which bound lane or if you had it backwards. Please go back and read what I said.

Thanks HDB.

One more thing , I have no fear of a speeding ticket. I have been traveling this Hwy like it's my driveway for 10 years or more.

I love the laws being out here to keep people from trying to out run everybody and ride on peoples bumpers.

NOTE: I see now why you said I had it backwards. I didn't mean to make it sound that way. I have always maintained my speed from the east side of Brooks into Florence.

So excuse me for the cofusion , I didn't make it clear. I Should have said I go 70 from East of Brooks on out until just before I get to 101 and Rogersville.

Thanks HDB, for going back and reading what I said. I meant no harm, just wanted to keep someone from getting a speeding ticket if they didn't notice the new signs. I'm glad the police are out there too. If they were not there it would not be safe to leave the house!
Now I hope EVERYBODY understand how you and I got alone on this subject.

Some people would have kept on arguing with you or me and I realized I am the one that misread what you meant and I am the one that did not make it clear when I responed the first time.

How many people would have admitted their own misunderstanding like I did?

It's not hard at all for me to say I'm wrong , a lot of people need to see this post for a good example of how we both worked it out.

Thanks and by the way , I did see the new sign yesterday afternoon.

Drivers with Radar detectors are an absolute don't even ask, no break ticket when stopped for speeding...and no radar detector can pick up a squelched radar unit.

They get prefered access to all other tickets, too.

Is it illegal to have a radar detector? I have always wondered. I don't, can't afford anything else, not a ticket either. Wish I didn't have to pay the one I got on September 1, dang-it.

They are in some states, Va I believe is the nearest one to us. Newer , better detectors do not produce a signal that can be detected .

LMAO!!! I'm glad you let everyone know the truth about those 'fuzz busters' and how LEO view them. The easiest thing is to just stay within a reasonable speed.

I have a gps unit and it tells me what time I am going to get home from a given place (I drive all over NW AL.) I have 'hurried' home once or twice in the past and I learned, from experience, that 10-15 mph over the speed limit will get me back from Cullman (to Sheffield) less than 10 minutes earlier (by the GPS). A $300 ticket (plus the time stopped) would eat that time saved up. For those of you that drive 5-10 miles home each day, speeding may save you 30 seconds to a minute each day. Is it worth it?

Gotta ask, though, Sassy, do you guys easily notice the difference between a radar detector and a GPS or cell phone cord run up to the rearview mirror? My gps is mounted above the mirror so it is easier to see and not in the way, but the wire runs down to the lighter.

We notice when a car goes from 75 to 45 in about 50 feet, after we switch our radar off of standby. That's a pretty good indication that the driver has a radar detector. There are so many different electronic devices on dashes and windshields any more that you can't go just by the clutter. If I activate my radar and the car does an immediate nosedive, 9 times out of 10 there is a radar detector in it.

Heres another good one:

Driver: "Dang, officer, I let my wife have the radar detector because I thought she needed it more than me...."
Got behind a fellow with a radar detector one night. He didn't know I was there. I'd flip the radar on for a second, then right back off. His detector would start flashing, his brake lights would flare, he'd drop about 15 mph. When I'd turn the radar off, he'd build his speed back up again. I'd pop him again, and he'd repeat the actions. I kept this up for about 5 miles, and he finally pulled the radar detector off the dash and threw it in the floor.

I do (both binocular and rifle scope), but what does that have to do with my previous post?

Kim , you must ride the highways a lot. I lugh my head off every day I hit the highways.

I'd be cruising alone the highways 60 miles an hour whether it's 55 or 65. The next thing I know I see break lights ahead of me and sometimes I never see a law officier.

Do you all just catch people driving to the extreme or what?

I even had a state trooper on my bumper one day praying for me to speed up 5 more mph in a 55 mph zone. He never got a chance and he gave up and turned on Moddle Road after following me from the Killen post office. LOL !!!!!!

Statistics will prove that in this area, no matter what speed you post a street with, the general public is going to average 5 to 8 mph faster. If I wrote everybody doing 5 mph over the limit, I could write 50 tickets a shift.

Perhaps the trooper was just going to Best Buy, and wanted to avoid the lights on Cox Creek by cutting throughBig Grin

Back when I was 15 I was on my way home at night. A car came running up on my bumper and stuck there. I hit my brakes (just enough to turn on the brake lights) and that car went into the ditch, but after some maneuvering, managed to come out and when it did, it went by me like I was tied. When he passed, I saw it was a state trooper car. LOL
Years ago while driving in Ill; i was on a divided hiway. Il is not like Ala, they set rediculos speed limits all over the place. anyway I was in the right lane with speec control on just minding my own business. An Il state trooper pulled up beside me and just stayed there for over 15 miles. We came in Belvidere and there was a traffic light so we had to stop. When we stopped i got out of my truck; walked in front of the squad and politely asked the trooper what the heck he was doing? "He just smiled and said: " you are driving the speed limit and as long as i am beside you, no one can nor can they speed. Just continue and have anice day. He turned off at the next exit.
