When I say that "I am a Christian," I am not shouting that "I am clean living." I am whispering "I was lost but now I'm found and forgiven."
...
When I say that "I am a Christian," I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
...
When I say that "I am a Christian," I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.
...
When I say that "I am a Christian," I'm not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
...
When I say that "I am a Christian," I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
...
When I say that "I am a Christian," I'm not holier than thou. I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow.

Those that have to say it are bragging or wanting to be looked upon as something special. Those are the ones I don't trust as far as I can spit, & that ain't very far.

I know a few of those type of people.  I also know those people that have no affiliation with the 'church', but you would think they were christian by their actions.  There are good people everywhere, you just have to weed through all the jack-legs standing between them.

Most people think you have to attend church to be a Christian & that's not true. Some of the most unkind, hateful people I know attend church & wear the "Christian" name tag. They're to ignorant to know their true nature shows.

You said WHEN you tell people you're a Christian. I wasn't picking on you. I was also following the lead of the topic, & your comment. Nothing more than curiosity why people feel the need to say "I'm a Christian". No one has yet bothered to tell me why.

When a person identifies themselves as a Christian they then set up for themselves various and impossible expectations (from others) to live up to and follow.  Possibly one reason to identify yourself as a Christian or being a believer in Christ is essentially to say " I love what God did for me and I want to share it and tell others it happened to me so that if someone is looking for answers then maybe God can do the same for them ".   It's also not being ashamed of saying I identify with Christ and that Christ died for me and I appreciate that.

One thing though, as a Christian, that am at times sensitive about.  I notice that many business people openly identify themselves as a Christian or a Christian business and while I am not in a position to judge their motives I am concerned they do this because then they allow their own shortcomings and their own mistakes to taint and effect the way others may view Christ.

In other words when a businessperson who identifies themselves openly as Christian does inferior work or shotty work then that reflects bad upon Christ whom they may be trying to testify for.   Sometimes a person may put that on their cards because they want to appeal to other Christians and thus get more business from other Christians or from people who care about wanting to hire other Christians.   I just wish people who identify themselves on their business cards woudl realize that they then should go above and beyond to do a better than average job and make a good impression for Christ rather than many who do not present a "good" witness by their own work.

Sometimes when I see such a card it makes me wonder if they are not just trying to use the name only in order to get more work.  I hope not!  I hope that anyone that would involk the name of Christ on or in their Business would exemplify Christ in all their business practices and excell in the particular field of work they are doing.   In other words give reason for someone to be impressed with their work rather than being a bad example or give reaosn for doubt and criticism.
