Okay, I just have to ask...

If we took away your Ipod, what is the strangest song we would find? I have taste that could only be described as “eclectic” at best (and that's being kind) and you might find Carmina Burana just after Pink Floyd but just before Michael Buble and the 80's hair bands (Motley Crue and Def Leppard).

Finishing up for the night with the headphones in it occurred to me how strange it would seem if someone saw my playlist.

I have a thing for songs that we all know done by people we would not expect to be doing them. Make sense? Two of the best are the Russians (“Leningrad Cowboys” and Red Army Choir) doing Sweet Home Alabama Link and then Wilson Pickett and Duane Allman doing “Hey Jude” (it was even done locally). Link

What are the weirdest things on your playlist?
May those that love us, love us. For those that don’t love us, may God turn their hearts. And if he doesn’t turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles, so we’ll know them by their limping.

I don't own an MP3 player, but I do listen to music, a wide range of music. Artists: A3 (also known as Alabama 3), Amanda Abizaid, Everlast, Zooey Deschanel, Styx, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blue Öyster Cult, Carly Simon, Bob Marly, Johnny Cash . . . I have about 5,000 MP3's ripped legally from my CD collection. I keep them on two portable disk drives. I burn CD's to listen to in my vehicle or at home.
I also have a wide range of music I listen to depending on my mood. Beethoven to Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie to Prince. Lots and lots of 50's , 60's and 70's music of all generes. Like Crusty , I have no rap.
I have recently starting keeping all my music on my computer. I do have an MP3 , but I bought a little thing at WalMart that plugs into the cigarette lighter in my car, and you can plug in a flash drive with WAV or MP3 music and it will play it through the radio, and I can take it from car to car very easy. I sometimes spend a lot of time in a car, sometimes a rental and that is where I listen to the music most.
I have even managed to put my tape cassette collection on the PC, and some of my records. Still have a lot of LPs to go though.

That's what i need to do....How are you transferring it?

I bought a little box from (of all places) Hartland America ( Link ). It comes with Audacity ( which can be downloaded, but they provided a CD)
Plug the tape player into a 2 for 1 splitter cable, one leg goes to amp, the other to the little box. The box connects to the computer via USB.
You have to play the tapes or LPs in real time, then stop , save the file, name it (for each track) and then start over on the next track.
It makes a WAV file that can be played on the pc, but I found couldn't be played on my little flash drive player. So, I then burned them to a cd in audio format, and then ripped them back via Windows Media Player. (thank Heaven for CD-rewritables )
A lot of work, but then I'm retired, and it's cold outside.
Here is the link to the device.

My son has mine borrowed now, and when he gets through I'll start with my LP's

They also have a turntable which connects to a USB port, but I think I like this better- more flexable.

Have you seen the movie, "Across the Universe"? It is based on the Beatle's music. I am a huge fan of the Beatles...and yeah, the movie is kind of like how you described the song above! LOL!
I might have to check that out, Bella. I love the picture painted in that song, drug induced or not.

blackacre, I was thinking the same thing. I love all my music and have a hard time picking any out to highlight. Maybe the variety is not as unusual as I once thought?

I grew up around people who seemed to pick one genre and stick with it, never knowing what they were missing. I wonder if the variety listed here has to do with growing up in a city known for music? The exposure to the variety perhaps?

I was fortunate to experience jazz, blues, big band music, etc. through being in the band. I also had family who gave me "cool" and different music to enjoy.

I fondly remember enjoying Stevie Wonder's Song in the Key of Life album for the first time. It was realeased in '76; so I was 8 years old. He was/is a storyteller with great rhythm. Smiler
