Idea for making the forums more user friendly

I think overall the TD has done a great job with the forums. It seems like they are getting more and more popular.

However, I find it burdensome navigating through the forums because you have to back completely out of one category (i.e. news, politics, etc.) before you can click on another one. If there were tabs at the top of every page, one for each category, that would make it so much easier to move from one category to another.

Just a suggestion. But good job overall!

Also, it would be nice to be able to send a personal message to someone simply by clicking on their avatar/name without having to go visit their public profile first.

I agree with both, it would also be nice if you could tell that you had a new PM without clicking the tab. Another board I use shows 0 New of 5 PMs type of format.

I agree with what all of you said!!!

I was going to suggest that IF they leave the PM box there, they at least make it RED or YELLOW so that we could NOTICE it there.

No telling how long messages sit there, unanswered, becausee someone just doesn't SEE it. Think about the new members too, they don't even know what to LOOK for.

You can LEFT click on any member's name and PM them from the shortcut menu (click for full size image):

Thanks for the tip, TSC! Now if we could get those navigation tabs . . . TD? Pretty please?

ETA: TSC, I tried it, but it doesn't give me a PM option. I still have to visit their public profile first. What am I missing?

Lawgrl...click on the Screen name then look for "invite to a private topic"

Ok! I wondered if that's how it worked. I have never used that function, so I didn't know if the invite would end up in the person's inbox or not. I'll try it next time. Thanks to you both.

Are you logged in? Sometimes I don't get logged in until I actually post. Check and make sure it says "Welcome, LAWGRL" and not "Login/Join" on the top of your menu bar.
