I'm gradually weeding out the people that don't add much to my forum life and that I don't consider of equal or greater intelligence as myself. I'm also narrowing down those I can't seem to justify entertaining if I feel they are below me on the Social Register, so to speak.
And the list gets smaller...
EM, read the post i made elsewhere and you'll know why i'm going to say that Florine DOES belong at the top of the "social register" ...lol
.....Just curious.....what do you have to do to be registered ?quote:Originally posted by tizzy:

EVERYTHING!
I see
Y'all made me laugh about something that happened years ago. I had a conversation with someone about the difference in upper middle class and lower upper class. The other guy said you had to be born into the upper class no matter how much money you made.
I told this to someone else and he said he was born to it. Why? His name was Earl.
Now let's sing a verse of that Confederate Railroad song.

Someone I know, who used to work at the Holiday Inn, told me they had a "Social Register."

Social Register? Are you serious? That's so archaic. Who cares? Elite society, country clubs, debutante balls and cotillions all epitomize the old money mentality. By telling everyone that your name is on the Social Register, you've demonstrated your lack of class, dear.
I feel the same way about social sororities and I'm glad I wasn't part of one in college. Every sorority sings the same "we stress individuality" mantra, but in actuality, all these sororities do is turn girls into a bunch of automatons. Why would I want to be part of that?
Class is character. Class is not what you were given or born into; you earn it. I grew up very poor and have earned what I have. The chance that I make more money than you, Florine, is excellent. The difference, however, is I don't brag about it. If I lost all of it tomorrow, it wouldn't bother me the way it would bother someone like you. As long as I have my health and my family, I'll be okay.
And I know that I am a friend to many different people in many different so-called "classes". I don't care if they live in a trailer or in Mountain Brook. Would you have real "friends" if your name came off that Social Register, Florine? Would anyone care about you then? Come off the pompous crap. No one cares.

professional socializers ....lol.
I think botox makes you higher on the social ladder.... you also resemble William Shatner.
Don't insult Capt Kirk, the Vulcans will get you!
Kirk was cool,... Shatner with a balloned up face isnt lol..... but Shatners up the social ladder.
I bet Florine is "One Time Only" that made the topic called Social Standing.
then turned tail when no one was impressed...lol.
....I was not impressed! I could list a lot more than this person did, but I don't feel the NEED to do it !! This person had no idea how foolish the post was! Btw, many of us reading this have better "credentials" than what he/she listed. We do not feel the need to boast. Pardon me, it should have been Most of us instead of "I could"quote:Originally posted by tizzy:

Same here, Just, but my family's pedigree and who i, and they, know and have associated with, has no bearing on my conduct and who *I* am. That is totally up to me, as an individual.

Incoming from The Big Giant Head!!!
Am I the only person posting on this thread?
Smarty, Smarty, had a party. Nobody came but Smarty, Smarty --get your buddies to say something sweet. Did you ever think of replacing the the second person pronoun in the song, "How Great Thou Art" with a first person singular pronoun? I bet you did!
Social standing? When I was a girl we had dances and the girls that couldn't get a beau were left standing in the corner. Is that Florine's social standing?

To whom it may concern:
Superiority complex refers to a subconscious neurotic mechanism of compensation developed by the individual as a result of feelings of inferiority.[1] The feelings of inferiority in this specific complex are often brought on by real or perceived social rejection.

And I thought I was the big snob around here. Hopefully this statement doesn't get me iggied!
