This forum is the organ of a newspaper in the Deep South. Bible Belt country. No need to imagine.
And yet, no sort of Southern Orthodoxy goes unchallenged here. Imagine.
The myth of Southern religious solidarity has been picked apart from Flannery O'Conner to William Faulkner to Randy Newman to Dusty Smith and yet, Southern Protestantism rules a virtual theocracy in Alabama. Imagine.
When will it end? When will Southern Constitutional patriots, religious and irreligious combined, join forces to end the religious tyranny of the Roy Moores, the Robert Bentleys, the Mo Brooks who thinks that those who champion the Jeffersonian, Constitutional separation of church and state are his "foes"?
Imagine a better day. Imagine a freer country and freer Alabama for everyone, regardless of religious persuasion.
Imagine this: When a religion imposes its values onto society in general, it is simply tyranny. OK, that's not so hard to imagine. There is Alabama, after all.
