That makes entirely too much sense, Smarty.

I think I will plagiarize you and pass this along to my council persons.
If the City Attorney said that it is not possible to issue vendor permits in the City of Florence, then I think you need to make your beef with the City Attorney. I don't know Carrier from Irons from Kitchens from Adam's Ox ~ but after reading the TD and this thread I am not convinced that your aggravation is aimed at the right person. It appears to this outsider like you are looking for a reason to kick Irons and can't seem to find one.
Wow, an objective outsider. Finally, an "objective" observation. No bias here. It's funny when someone feigns "objectivity" and then immediately shows they aren't objective at all. You do this by covering for the "mayor." I am not hiding that I like Carrier's positions and approaches. If you like Irons, fine, but don't hide behind outsider objectivity facades to look reasonable and un-biased, when you really are biased. If you really are an outsider then you might not know what you are talking about anyway as to the broader issues and the context in which this is taking place. You may not realize the ones pulling this string behind the scenes, real motives, etc. There is plenty to find about the poor leadership here that needs to be addressed. The city attorney did not find a way because he was not supposed to find a way. I have been around enough to know that if there is a will, there is a way. Again, the buck stops at the top. If you want the job, you take the responsibility, and the heat. So if we get some good news will you say the top dog deserves no credit? If leadership gets good results should that not be credited? I guess not, by the logic here. Heck, we don't even need leaders. It doesn't matter anyway. That is illogical and unethical because it let's the one really responsible off the hook. That's exactly wrong. In this case, it is not the city attorney, or the park director, or Adam's Ox, that is the problem. Harry Truman said "the buck stops here" at his desk, with him. Where does it stop in Florence? It's hard to tell.

Don't hide behind the Ice-Cream man! Your above statements are that this has nothing to do with him and everything about your personal agenda with Irons.

Amen TSC -- this guy wants everyone to be "objective" but HE OR SHE is not "objective" either. He is also hiding behind about 5 different screen names that we have figured out over the weekend. He slipped and posted on the wrong name .... ooooppsss -- very objective indeed...

I agree with you though -- if they issue a permit to allow it where does the line get drawn as to what is and is not allowed? also, do they do "background checks" on these "vendors" or "ice cream men" -- who's to say they are not sex offenders in disguise looking for their next victim? There is more to look at here than just bashing the Mayor. I commend Kitchens and the City Attorney for abiding by the ordinance that is in place.
If there are rules already in place, then the people need to abide by those rules. If folks don't like the rules (ice-cream man included) then they should talk to their mayor and council people about changing them. Many towns have codes that regulate ice-cream trucks. Curious people can read some of them here. Chicago in particular has had many problems with ice-cream vendors. Curious people can read about that here, here, and here. Granted, the Shoals is a far cry from Chicago, but freaks live everywhere.

As I said, I have no dog in this hunt. I am lactose intollerant and live in Madison! I read the article on Sunday and read this thread and thought somebody who thinks there are TooManyIronsInTheFire sounds like they have TooMuchFreeTimeOnTheirHands.

TSC -- i think you hit the nail on the head!
Let's see. Two Chicks, One is a Smarty, and the other is Dixiefied. Wow. Where to begin, Protection from freaks? Mr. Harrison is not a freak. He is a good man that the kids love. He has been doing it for years. All of a sudden it's a problem? This is an outright shame. Why don't the powers-that-be draw the hard-line, letter-of-the-law, with the cronys who have bilked the citizens for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I did not see this level of concern over those cases, or a call to absolute fealty to the ordinance, laws, or ethics. I saw sweep-it-under-the-rug, wink, wink, good-ole-boy-ism cover that stuff. But here, boy, let's make absolutely certain we hold The-Ice-Cream-Man's feet's to the fire. Let's GET TOUGH with him. Let's show who is boss. This is downright silly. It is a joke. But being from Madison, Smarty, you oughta know plenty about jokes in office. And Dixie, give it a rest. You are defending the indefensible. Oh well.

sasparila -- we all know you are the another personality of toomanyironsinthefire and need to get a life...and yes you are right -- you are indefensible -- you are a sad case of a person that needs to find a life of their own other than Scott Carrier's campaign for Mayor...I'll give it a rest when you give it a rest -- decide on one screen name and stick with it -- hold your feet to the fire and quit talking to yourself so much....what's scary? is you are answering yourself too....seems a little psycho crazy to me...maybe we should warn Scott about you .... you seem to be stalking him a bit....bet he doens't even realize it since you are fawning him with praise and worship...seems like you're stalking Irons too since you are out for blood....good thing this forum is a public one -- it can be used if we ever need to prove your psycho obsessive tendencies....

1. I'm not from Madison. I have over 1100 posts, why don't you read some of them?? Then you'd know a little about me. I'm from Greenhill, AL. I earned two degrees from UNA and worked in the Shoals until the job situation became such that I had to move to Georgia. I moved back here to be close to my mama and Madison was as close to the Shoals as I could get. Sad, ain't it? Got all them degrees from UNA and no place in Florence to use them. Also, I live in Madison CITY - but in Limestone COUNTY - no jokes in either office.

2. We (Dixie and I) aren't choosing our battles, YOUR city leaders are. As you just stated, I didn't vote the SOB's into office, YOU did. So if you have problems with them, then deal with the problems.

3. Your ice cream man situation is a violation of the rules, laws, ordinances, whatevers right now that could explode into a CNN-proportion boondoggle. If you have your head buried so deep in the sand (or somewhere else) that you cannot see that Mr. Harrison doesn't hold the monopoly on ice cream trucks / vans / carts, then you are living on a river in Egypt, not the Tennessee. What happens when some child sex predator begins peddling frosties and Drumsticks and PushPops? What happens when some kid gets run over by the ice cream guy who drinks a little Wild Turkey before he starts his route? What happens when your 13 year old comes home with some Strawberry Quik flavored meth that she got from the ice cream guy?

To say "well, they don't enforce the laws on all of them, so don't enforce any of them" is silly. It's a joke. Thanks for the giggles, sasparila. I think I hear the Ice Cream Man coming, so I'm gonna get a TwinPop.
I have admitted before that I am not the smartest one. I don't make the connection of the ice cream man and the loan, that was made years ago. Did the ice cream man get the loan? Help me. What does one have to do with the other? How does Scott Carrier have to do with this? Why is sas constantly talking about Scott Carrier, on every subject? Reminds me of Pba and everything he has to talk about having 'wings'. Some are right, some are left. Scott Carrier seems to be the answer to every problem on every subject. I don't understand. I am trying tho.
I'm not the one who keeps mentioning this, Carrier, or anything else now. You are. Also, it says above that Smarty lives in Madison by her own words. I guess you will hang on a semantic technicality right. What did I say "from" Madison or something. So you act like it's a big deal. You live in Madison. Right? Okay you went from Greenhill to Georgia to Madison. Woopy-Doo. My bad. It is evident I have hit a nerve and you do protest way to much about all of this. Your hysterical really. Stalking? You said that, I didn't. That is on your mind, not mine. Whoa. You also point out another problem here with leadership. You had to move to get a job opportunity. Your angry rambling incoherent discourse does, when boiled down, actually prove my points. The ice cream guy has been doing it for years and no body has died from a meth overdose or been abused or kidnapped. That overblown rhetoric of yours is a signal of your mental imbalances and delusional thinking. He sells ice cream to kids who love him in the park. Wow. You are the goofy ones. Thanks for a fun give and take though. I couldn't have done it without you.
Kitchens is the Department Head and she made the decision. THe City Attorney confirmed that she is upholding the ordinance and there is no other way around it. The Mayor backed up her decision and has chosen to abide by the law. There is no other way to see this situation. THe Ordinace dictates what should happen and all 3 of our City Leaders have upheld the law. You can't choose what laws you obey or what laws you uphold.

You brought up "under the rug" stuff -- The mayor backed Chief Singleton on the PD stuff.

You don't want to see the fact that the Mayor has done his due diligence in this situation -- get over it.
Seems this thread has exhausted itself. Now, the same thing is being said, over, and over, and over. Maybe, they will 'fix' the problem with the ice cream man, so he can do his thing, while preventing the undesirables from having access to our children. Who knows, Scott Carrier may be elected mayor...down the road. Maybe he will give somebody a job in the inner office, or a plaque, for most devoted supporter, or get an order of protection...who knows, but GIVE IT A REST!

If that post I quoted above had contained any facts or even points to discuss, then this could continue. Since it was just attacks and admits to not knowing what the heck the poster is talking about, I guess I'll go with gypsyc and say this topic is closed.

Why SCOTT CARRIER, of course! Do I get a point?

Worry not, Sassy: God himself, in the form of your beloved Scott Carrier, will usher in a new era of honesty and accountability that this world has never seen!. Once Scott dies for our sins, the city will never, ever have any more scandals like this ever again and we will all enjoy 12 nubile young virgins in heaven.

Praise be to Allah Carrier!

I can see how letting the ice cream man sell in the parks could open the door up to t-shirt vendors, art vendors, hot dog vendors, and all sorts of folks selling their wares at the parks. Before you know it, it would look like the parking lot of a Grateful Dead show.

Considering the current alternative, I'm in favor of a fine Dead scene. Cool

Veggie burrito, anyone?
