See, another example of a non-example. What kind of COC did you get your facts from.?

Hell,is this a "make it up" as you go forum ?

i could give you names and places, dates and times. i know the name of the church in question.. have been there for service once..i could give you the manes of the mother and daughter, and her other 2 kids, the name of the preacher, the name of the convict.. err.. ex-husband. i could even tell you the first name of the cop (i don't remember if i ever knew his last name).

i can't and won't make any blanket statments about the CoC as a whole... but i know that at least ONE CoC did indeed teach these exact things. i can speak with considerable knowledge on a couple of different CoC's and the things they teach, but i can't say with any accuracy that those churchs are good examples of the demonination as a whole.

just because you don't liek the information isn't an indication that it was made up. if your church doesn't teach things like this, just ignore my posts and be glad that yours isn't one of the ones i'm talking about.

I have personally be given hard time by Baptist, Methodist and a Catholic members because I am Church of Christ.  The Baptist member apologized because she realized she was not being a Christian by saying what she was said to me.  I believe that you need to read your Bible and do what it says and not Add to the Word or Take away from it.

that's one of the few things i DO like about the tenets of the CoC..

the bible says what it means, and means what it says. no interpretation needed, no omissions, no translations... here it is - deal with it.

unfortunatly, i rarely find any CoC members who acctually follow this idea hard and fast.

i haven't LOOKED anywhere... but when discussing things, it comes out that the things they are trying to convince me of are 'interpretations' of what was written.

just as a brief example... alcohol.... there is no place that says alcohol is a sin... but people start backing and filling and saying ' but if you take this verse here, and this one, and put em together, it means..." yadda yadda....  that's interpreting and picking and chooseing to prove soemthing you want to believe.

it DOES say that strong drink is a bad idea, and that wise men will not partake of it....

but it doesn't say that it's a sin....

there are other examples.... that was just the easiest off the top of my head...

there are lots of Churches that wear the name over the Door that don't resemble the one I attend, they are like most of the others, they have to be Fed and Entertained to get them to go.

I haven't seen anyone try to make you ashamed of the COC & I haven't seen anyone "get their back up". Most people identify the COC as believing/teaching they are the only church going to Heaven. Every COC I've ever been in teach they are the only church in which their members will go to Heaven but that you can't know until you die if you're going to Heaven. The people I know that are members of the COC believe this.

I've never seen or heard of anyone in the Baptist church that had a problem with men wearing beards. Plenty of men in the church have beards and/or mustaches. COC has some sort of "shunning" practice where they ignore people in and outside the church that they think have wronged them, so maybe it's you that doesn't know about churches and you're mixing them up.  And yes, COC thinks they're the only ones going to heaven.

I have never read the word shunning in the Bible, nor have I heard it used in any worship service, etc. That is Amish and Mennonite and perhaps some others.

Black Balling does not "throw anyone out of church." It prevents one from placing membership. The congregant at the Central church was a member at First Baptist and wanted to "move his letter." It takes just one person to black ball, and one person chose to do so because he didn't like a beard. That does not mean anyone else in the Baptist Church feels that way.

The Bible teaches that the saved are added to the church, so according to the Bible, anyone who is saved is a church member. I understand that what church is open to interpretation.
