It's time to make your best political predictions for 2010 ...

Will the media stop pretending that Dick Cheney's opinion has any value? Will they end their practice of playing stenographer for Sarah Palin and her Facebook ramblings? Will they realize that parroting talking points with bothering to fact-check isn't really journalism? Will they -- okay, these are fantasies, not predictions.

Hopefully you can do better

I predict Nobluecanine will begin a post without a cut and paste from alternet. I predict that Goldman Sachs hangs its sign on the Treasury Building and makes it official, I predict that Al Gore is eaten by a polar bear and becomes a martyr for Global Warming, I predict that Bill Clinton starts hanging out with Tiger Woods.
I predict a lot of democratic congressional and senate seats will be lost and not all necessarily to republican challengers.

I predict Lou Dobbs will get into politics and win this year....don't say it can't happen - think Al Franken.

I predict that Alabama will see more Republican office holders than at any time in it's history on a local level...and some of those seats might be in NW Alabama.

I predict business as usual in the City of Florence politics.
I predict that Dick Cheney will continue to emerge from time to time from beneath the slime-enveloped rock where he resides to barf out erroneous and ludicrous criticism of the current administration and to fabricate bogus history in a vain and transparent effort to redeem himself and his neocon cronies from the total embarrassing mess they made in eight years of gross mismanagement, neglect and sell-out to their corporate cronies.

I predict that right-wing sheeple will continue to gasp and fawn over the shabby and distorted utterances of such pundettes as the deplorable Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter.

I predict that yet more of the "Family" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family_(Christian_political_organization) associated with the "C Street House" (a.k.a "Holy Roller Hotel")will be exposed as the kinds of hypocrites that several other "Family" members (e.g. Mark "Appalachian Trail" Sanford, John Ensign, and Chip Pickering) have shown themselves to be.

I predict that Sarah Palin will continue to spout her simplistic platitudes across the country, garnering the adulation of the hard-core, deluded, but steady and faithful fraction of the electorate that really (ya betcha!) believes that this scrambled egg has the goods to perform intelligently in national office.

I predict that Afghanistan will not, in 2010, 2011 or even 2012, become sufficiently stabilized to enable the U. S. to substantially withdraw its troops without risking a complete relapse into the tribalist, warlord and (more recently) Taliban-controlled fiefdoms that have controlled much of that fragmented nation for most of its existence.

I predict that this forum will continue to be populated with an excess of participants who depend on ad hominem attacks, insults, and off-topic attempted cuteness and cleverness in a vain and laughable effort to score points in debate.

I predict the lefties on this site will continue to wallow in their egos all the while pontificating on how anyone who doesn't agree with them is a illiterate right wing, bible thumping, racist, sexist, bigoted, Klansman, and probable Republican.marksw59

I predict that both of those predictions are right.

I also predict that more posters of the conservative persuasion will be banned than the liberal leaning.

Hmmm... could be... The funny thing is that Beternobody thinks he's participating in some protracted text version of "Firing Line" where he's some leftie version of William F. Buckley. Pure - comedy - GOLD! Wink

This ain't the place for a logical, intelligent, honest debate on politics.

First you would need to find honest, intelligent, logical politicians.

Yep--this sure ain't "the place for a logical, intelligent, honest debate on politics," and it won't become that unless and until the intemperate, incompetent, insulting and irrelevant right wingnuts who have lately dominated the "conservative" viewpoint on this forum decide to meet issues head on instead of predictably resorting to intemperance, incompetence, insults and irrelevance.

For starters, I suggest that kperk (along with any other(s) so disposed) make a new year's resolution to refrain from accusing those with whom he/she disagrees of being "haters." That chronic form of silliness has no place in intelligent discussion.

Secondly, I suggest that in the new year a measure of respect be shown to all members by refraining from distorting user names into insulting and crude versions of their originals. That silliness does nothing but confirm the perpetrator's childish immaturity.

Still full of it, ain't ya? Yes, distorting user names, is much worse than calling people stupid or racist just because we disagree with you. And the beat goes on.

Any assertions I have made concerning the racial attitudes or intellectual shortcomings of any persons on or off this forum have been backed up by analysis and substance. By contrast, you and your ilk just typically barf out pejorative bilge without making ANY effort to document or substantiate your accusations. Pity is, you can't understand the difference, so you just keep on slinging insults and name-calling and using those puerile tactics to avoid meaningful debate.
Well bitter rot, for starters:

Anyone who is so conceited to have a screen name of 'better than you' deserves to be insulted.

Second: you always refer to any other poster who disagrees with you as incompetent, irrelevant, right wing-nuts.

Third: any story about a conservative you latch onto and beat it to death, conversely, any story about a liberal is 'explained'.

Fourth: you and all the libs have more fascination with the Republican party than the republicans do.

Fifth: the libs are the ones who accuse reps of being haters and racists, simply because we can see through Obama's blowhard attitude for what it is: stupidity.

Sixth: preach to your own choir reverend. Pogo, Gray man, blue dog, et al, cannot make any post without snide comments and ad hominem attacks.

Last: I purposely used 'ain't' in my last post just for you.

Ain't life wonderful, rev?
To BeternU:

I don't really have a horse in this race. I don't think that you and I have gone back and forth with one another before, so, this is not some sour grapes post. I think you have strong opinions and you stick to them and I admire you and many others on this forum who do so (conservatives and liberals). I try to be open minded and read everyone's post as an "opinion" and take into consideration that no one is going to agree with me 100%. That being said, however, I have wondered about your screenname and noticed that it has been the butt of many jokes and the subject of many other posts. Did you pick "BeternU" in a kind of tongue-in-cheek fashion or do you really believe that you are better than others? Were you being sarcastic of other's attitudes or really feel intellectually superior? Just curious. I don't want to presume anything just because it was posted on here.

A polite question deserves an answer.

Yes, it is a name chosen "tongue-in-cheek," but if I had known how many persons were on this forum would automatically assume otherwise (or pretend to assume otherwise) and proceed to criticize ME for that name instead of addressing the content of what I post, I very well might have chosen another name.

No--I do not think I am better than everyone. But I do maintain that when I post, I try to post relevant CONTENT and SUBSTANCE and that practice is decidedly better than the practice of all too many others who rely mostly on name-calling, stereotyping and insult.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for your answer - glad I asked instead of assuming. Happy New Year to you, too!

And any assertions of your lack of intelligence, racism, and communism is backed up with everyone of your posts....including this one.

How true. Betternobdy presents himself as wholly aligned with his moniker with his pompous and presumptuous manner. At least that's how it comes across on this side of the screen. Folks like that are not here for the debate, they are here to declare an opinion and rain down upon those who might dare to have a different opinion with vitriol and verbal shrapnel. Oh, and don't dare have a grammar or spelling error, because beternU(apparently in every conceivable way) will surely have it ready to virtually rub in your virtual face. Yeah, beternU's really got it going on... "attaboy Bill, attaboy" Meaningful debate? Comedy gold.
Another Kperk megabarf:

Note the total lack of any analytical content. Kperk continues to comfort him/her self with the myth that his/her simply saying something magically makes it so. That is not confidence; it is self-delusion! Kperk reminds me of the line once used by an American newspaperman to describe Chesterton: "He mistakes his own borborygmus for the rumblings of the universe."

Hmmm... The Chesterson criticism seems timely and applicable to... beternnone... Gold, comedy gold...

And you remind me of someone who had one too many lobotomies. The people opposing that procedure should use you as the poster boy on the horrible effects. Smiler

Kperk seems to believe that invective and insult = intelligence and ingenuity. If that were so, then Kperk would be Einsteinian and Edisonian. But it is not true and Kperk is no Einstein or Edison, but is more closely related to the stereotypical VILLAGE IDIOT!

I'm going to have to call BS on that one betternU. As anyone who has been on here long enough to read several of your posts it is evident that you clearly believe that you have superior intelligence than anyone on the forums. Can you name any poster that you think is as smart or smarter than you? You have a long history of name-calling, stereotyping, and insults.
