There are studies that show graduates, with the same grades, from the less expensive colleges do as well salary wise as those from the expensive schools after about three years.

Bill O'Reilly's interviewer Watters queried five students on the Harvard campus about the return of ROTC to Harvard.

http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/...-rotc-discrimination

"JESSE WATTERS, "FACTOR" PRODUCER: Now, Harvard banned the ROTC. Now they're welcoming them back. What do you think about that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If we lived in a society where we had a truly just leader, we wouldn't need the military.

WATTERS: If we had a really good president, we wouldn't need a military at all?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If the Dalai Lama was president, things would be radically different."

Apparently, the dummy doesn't know that the Dalai Lama used to be head of a country -- Tibet. The Red Chinese Army conquered Tibet despite the presence of the Dalai Lama.

As a historical note, Tibet possesses a small army the defended Tibet till their defeat. They made a fighting retreat across the mountains until the Dalai Lama could escape to India. The Dalai Lama attempted to make a defense pact with the smaller nations on Tibet's borders -- Bhutan, Sikkim, and Nepal.

I've always like his common sense advice on personal defense. "If someone came to kill you, and you had a gun. Why wouldn't you defend yourself?"

"UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Guess what? We blew up a bunch of people. We find out the people that are rebelling against Qaddafi are Al Qaeda. We're not ever leaving the Middle East, guys.

WATTERS: So if Al Qaeda wants to set off a dirty bomb, you don't want students at Harvard to be able to go into the ROTC?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The Al Qaeda isn't real. The Al Qaeda is created by the CIA.

WATTERS: Who flew the planes into the World Trade Center?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The CIA.

WATTERS: That's extremely offensive."

The left wing conspiracy theorist called Truthers. They make Birthers appear calm and reasonable.

"WATTERS: President Obama has now started a third war with no congressional approval there. You're OK with that, right?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That was mandated by the United Nations Security Council, unlike the war in Iraq.

WATTERS: So World War II or the Korean War or Vietnam, you're saying those are illegal wars?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The U.N. Security Council didn't exist."

Again, a complete lack of knowledge of history. The UN was founded in 1945. The Security Council approved the use of armed force against the invaders.

All great examples of a liberal education. If I were the parent of any of the three. I'd cease any monetary support to these three dummies.

I do not want the bridge I cross to be designed or built by a liberal arts graduate! The new extremely sophisticated robot lab at Calhoun is the next thing to a miracle! Some of you may remember Charles Estes whom I believe is from Sheffield. Dr. Estes shared in the 70's that we would miss the garbage man much before we missed him! His doctorate was in philosophy! He did a great job, asked pertinent questions and left us thinking! Liberal Arts degrees are fine for those who have the time and money.

It's scarey to think some day these guys will be taking over our country.
I understand that a lot of our countries college students are at the same understanding as this
student. I have to agree with elinterventor01. If your kids are getting this type of education,
your probably wasting your money.

Keep Marching,
Skippy

You do know that technically speaking the liberal arts include mathematics and geometry - necessary tools for engineers. They also include astronomy.

Realistically speaking most "liberal arts" schools choose the designation of "liberal arts and sciences". The "liberal arts" school I attended had very strong physics, math, biology, and chemistry departments along with the other non-science departments. My wife was a chemical biology major.

If you would like to see some bridges designed by liberal arts graduates, Google is your friend.
Everyone who wishes to cross a bridge designed and built by an English Major with a minor in Mandarin Chinese feel to do so. If he/she should then get an advanced degree from an accredited school of engineering I will go with you! The point I am trying to make is most ivy League Schools are not known for producing engineers. If MIT is considered Ivy League I will accept that! You folks must not have anything else or anyone else to pick on today. My part in this discussion is over!

I would hazard the guess that after three years, an employee has had opportunity to demonstrate his/her skills and worth to the company for which he/she works and that compensation at that point is indicative of performance rather than being a function of where the employee obtained his/her degree. Thus, there is a leveling out of salaries for comparable work, based on merit, as it should be. I have olong contended that a strong liberal arts education from a small, academically intensive college or university is superior to the education provided by many of the more prestigious universities that have attained their rank by such non-instructional means as the reputations of their research faculty. In far too many of the large universities, far too much of the classroom teaching is done by graduate assistants instead of by highly-qualified faculty.

My children went to small, academically-demanding colleges that would never be ranked alongside the Ivys, but they got a very high quality educational experience and have thrived professionally. One even went on to law school, but we usually try to conceal that when with polite company. Instead of revealing that she is an attorney, we just say that she plays piano in a house of ill fame.

You must have loosened your bun. You made a joke and two spelling errors. Interesting that you are a fiscal conservative with you money. But, liberal with other people's money.

My money was hardly a factor. My kids both nailed down fat scholarships and they, noT their parents, selected their colleges. My daughter who went to law school made some smart investments and paid her own way.
