Isn't he the councilman that recently rewarded the trust of his constituents by going to an alcoholic treatment center? I recall he said during his campaign that it was not a problem for him. As someone in his district I ask the same question of him about trust.

What I am interested in is when are they actually hiring, what will they pay, and will they pull a bait and switch like Walgreens Call Center did when they came here. It was stated in the TD when they had the Walgreen officials and the then elected officials splashed on the front page that the company would hire as many as 500 workers with a starting hourly rate for customer service reps around $14.00 per hour. Over one thousand applied when they finally started taking applications. Well the first group hired was told AT THE AL STATE EMPLOYMENT SERVICE MIND YOU: that the actually starting salary would be $10.25. Still a fortune at the time for this area. When the first group, 18 in number, actually showed up for their first day of work and orientation it was revealed that the starting hourly rate would be $8.00 and hour with a 90 day probationary period which included NO BENEFITS. Well, those that stuck it out, and mind you a few had quit jobs making slightly more WITH benefits, after the 90 days were supposed to get Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance. All of a sudden it was told to employees that the insurance carrier would be United Health Care (who coincidentally had just signed a contract with Walgreen's to handle their claims calls) Well the only problem was that United Health Care had EXTREMELY limited physicians and medical facilities in this area which took their insurance! A lot of people just gave up, lie after lie and the grueling situation of working in an electronic sweat shop proved too much. And they did all this AFTER receiving a 2 million dollar incentive from SEDA and tax abatements for 20 years. SO, what I am getting at is the picture and articles has been splashed for N American Lighting, is this another Walgreens? How about it investigative reporters at the TD? Are the citizens of the Shoals are being duped again?
Sorry to bring up an old thread but I believe MADDOG brought up some of the most relevant questions I have seen on this forum. These questions should be answered in the coming few months.
I have no dog in this fight (no offense intended) but I have seen this bait and switch Maddog refers to up close in another place.
If this company does what they have promised I think they would be glad for everyone to know. If not, everyone else will become a little wiser (again no offense) about industrial recruiting, and how tax money is spent.
