lack of funding will mean no criminal trials or traffic court in Jeffco after the 27th. Non-violent inmates at the county jail will have to be released as violent offenders are put in custody as the jail is normally 30% over capacity already, so there is no room to house more, and of course the county cannot afford to pay another county to house their inmates.
The Alabama forensics labs have seen state budget cuts of about 50%, but were able to make up the difference with stimulus funds until this year. Now, the processing of evidence will go from years behind schedule to probably never fulfilling all the request from the states 400+ law enforcement agencies.
This is the New Repub leadership in Alabama, after 135 years of Dems. Somehow, I doubt soft on crime is the message they wanted to send.
