for one time I agree with Jackson...

quote:
Jesse Jackson

In New York, the Reverend Jesse Jackson said on Monday that the execution would not make the US safer and would only increase the violence in Iraq.

"Killing him intensifies the violence, reduces our moral authority in the world," said Jackson, who has travelled to the Middle East on peace missions.

"Today we are not more secure. We're less secure. We've missed a moment to appeal to those in Iraq to break the cycle of violence."

The deposed Iraqi president was hanged on Saturday, three years after being captured. He was buried on Sunday.

Jackson, who spoke after preaching at the Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, said Osama bin Laden, not Saddam, was behind the September 11, 2001, attacks.

"Saddam Hussein didn't hit us. Bin Laden hit us," he said. "Iraq didn't hit us. The Taliban hit us."

Jackson said the US was complicit in the trial and execution of Saddam by the Iraqis "because we held him in our custody, and the government in Iraq today is a government subsidised by the US".

Well the violated the treaty that ended the last war by kicking the inspectors out and repeatedly firing on our planes in the no fire zone. There were 17 UN resolutions Saddam snubbed his nose at. What would have been your solution and what is the point of sanctions if we are going to let every two bit dictator walk all over them?

Does Bush or any of his cronies snub their noses? Just wondering, sincerely wondering, not being factious.... I think I am going to start googling to learn more about this, because this is the FIRST time I have read this reasoning.

U.N. resolutions...not U.S. resolutions. The U.S., Great Britian and Spain went before the U.N. to gain support to invade Iraq...The support was not there...the U.S. decided to invade anyway. The U.S. invaded a soveriegn country. Bush is a war criminal.

attempted Resolution

My solution? I would abide by the U.N. rules of conduct, IF, I were to continue being a member. The U.N.is nothing but a joke though, in all reality, and has been since the league of nations.

I would not present false statements about Iraqs possesion of WMDs, unless you want to count the ones the U.S. supplied them. Oh but then Iraq as our friend. Remember the Iranians that were killed with the U.S. supplied chemicals? Oh yes, Iraq had WMDs...the U.S. gave them to Iraq. But Bush's referal was to nuclear weapons mostly.

There are violent dictators all around...Iran, North Korea that pose more of a threat than Iraq. They hadn't threatened GHWB's life though, had they? Bush gets to retaliate for his father and get control of oil with the same war...and here we are just insignificant pawns in the rich mans game.

Now...look up black nobility.

OMG......finally someone is agreeing with what I have been saying all along. The war is a cover up for oil and money. I feel like we never would have been hit by terrorists if we had not put another Bush in office for president. It was a slap in the face. Look at what the first Bush did, sent our troops to war over what "OIL."

How VERY right you are!!!!! Never was about WMD or Bin Laden or Al Quieda.. .. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.... Bush is a RICH person's president.... OIL, MONEY. Man, how sickening.

My heart, my thoughts and my prayers go out to each and every GI over in Iraq, I hope God takes care of them and holds them close to His heart.
Where does Jesse Jackson come into play? He is not Martin Luther King,JR. and never will be. Furthermore, his motives are always influenced by self rather than for the greater good. Whether one agrees with him or not who cares what he has to say when what he has to say is just to incite more emotionalism and attention to himself. Was he asked to go on Peace Missions or was this something he perpetuated for himself? I find it hard to believe that the Iraqis asked for him to negotiate their peace treaties. If we are to get out of the Middle East we don't need to have this knee jerk reaction to just pull out and be done with it all. We can't throw our hands up and say we're through. Brentenman is right when you think of the ramifications of Iran as being the opportunistist waiting for just that moment. Gradual withdrawal, leaving the Iraqis in control and stable has got to be the answer just to cover our butts now. Did Bush get us into this for retaliation or for oil or for 911? It doesn't matter now anymore. We've got to focus on getting our boys home as quickly and as safe as possible while ensuring that we still protect the U.S. Deal with the other when we get the situation controlled and our family and friends home and out of harm's way. Impatience is a curse and we have only ourselves to blame if we push for quick withdrawal and the aftereffects prove to be worse than would have been with a steady approach.

can you name me one period in time when this region wasn't at war, where peace was sustained for very long?

Why do you think it is possible now?

I think the main thing being overlooked here is...these people are different than us. They are not as civilized.

You are sure right about him being about HIMSELF... that is obvious.

Totally agreed they are different from us. They are not what we perceive as civilized, but how do you propose we get the heck out? Don't you think taking whatever civility that is there out of the picture we won't be making a situation worse? Propose Iran gets possession of the Iraqi government, then what? We have left these people in a mess that we created in a bigger pile of crap. Lets do damage control to the best of our ability and get out. Complete peace is unachievable in this part of the world, that I accept. However, Getting out without bringing the ramifications home with us should be our ultimate goal now.
