While researching info on the Neese/Flo loan, I found an interesting article from a UNA news release of June 6, 2002. It seems the Florence Board of Education had offered the old Appleby property to UNA for 500K. UNA demurred, and the Board then let Triple J (consisting of Neese, Jimmy Hughston, etc.) purchase the land for 228K. Any thoughts? Well, at least any thoughts that are actually acceptable in the TD Forum?

The land where the tennis courts are had been previously purchased by UNA--it was the old school. This land was the new gym which the Board had held on to for some reason. I think Triple J (the other J is J. Winston Williams) probably still own the apartments, but am not sure.

Jimmy Neese and Jimmy Hughston are also listed as Lyons Properties that own the aparments on Pine--of course this could also have been transferred in the last couple of years.
That has become a very nice looking part of UNA. The dorms are not married student housing. It all fits into the neighborhood nicely which is guess is important since Jimmy is doing the way big renovation on the little cottage on Walnut Street complete with a lap pool and pricy brick wall enclosure.
Can you smoke on property that Jimmy has improved? I sure hope not!

Neese re-sold the Appleby property, where the Sorority dorms are now located, to UNA at a very nominal mark-up. One condition of the sale was that UNA purchase the Lions' Gate Apartments on Pine Street. It was a good business deal for all involved. You really ought to consider spending less time looking under rocks and bushes for some sort of conspiracy.

Sorry . . . I've had computer problems. What I attempted to post was this:

Neese sold the old Appleby property to UNA for a little more than he paid for it. Part of the deal was that they (UNA) purchase the Lions Gate apartments on Pine street. It was the classic example of a good business deal in that everyone won: the Board of Education got rid of a dilapidated gymnasium that was not needed, UNA got a site for the sorority dorms, which was sorely needed and are certainly an aesthetic improvement to the area, and gained another apartment complex for student housing, and Neese made a profit and got rid of an apartment complex that he didn't want. That's the way business should work. If the Board of Education hadn't asked an outrageous price for the Appleby land, Neese wouldn've been left out of the loop altogether. He's a businessman who seized an opportunity. Everyone won.
Would you please put that in writing to the holder's of my college loan. I work 50 hours a week as a nurse caring for critically ill patients--I really feel that should count for something. I mean, while I didn't mind borrowing that money when I went back to college, now that I'm working and making the "big bucks," I'd really like to spend it all on myself. Kinda the same thing isn't it?
David and Jenny: Give me a break. Unrepentedly bilking the taxpayers, using political hacks to cover for you, and generally being an arrogant shyster does not make you someone who has made the city "better" in any stretch of the imagination.

A public official who looks the other way (as in "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" I guess is what you mean by that perversion of Scripture) is derelict in their duty.

I have never heard one ounce of acknowledgement or gratitude on Mr. Neese part for the taxpayers generosity to his bank accounts, or whoever person or whatever company he is operating under.

It is a shell game, and a shame that this was ever done TO Florence, not FOR Florence.
Everyone should just go read the public records / mortgages at the courthouse or get someone to post it online. Neese was able to convert the mortgage to an intermediate company without a personal guarantee.

As long as he keeps a sizable 1st mortgage on the property, which the documents allow expansion of the 1st debt again & again, then the Neese company doesn't have any worries. Because the 2nd (City) mortgage is all but worthless.
The Emmons pervert Scripture by twisting it to say a developer and his companies who bilk taxpayers should not be dealt with by saying it is "casting stones" in a Biblical sense. That is nonsense of course. It is Neese and his benefactors in "official" Florence who have bashed the citizens of this city. The brazen arrogance at play here is astonishing and it must be dealt with. The Scripture also says a good man pays his debts. The Bible talks of truth and justice and honesty all throughout. What about that David & Jenny?

Also, "enough is enough"? Your **** right it is. And ain't that what Jim and Tammy Faye Baker said when they got after them for bilking PTL partners? Birds of a feather...
Trust me Emmons -- Pokey "deals with 'em"....most of us have our suspicions as to who Pokey is or at the very least who Pokey represents. If you read most of his/her and several other "identities" on here -- you'll get more insight into this situation and fascination for him.

With that said Pokey....don't pass out....

I do agree with GoFish and Pokey here -- I don't owe anyone Millions of dollars and what little I do owe, I do my best to pay off or at least pay when it is due, so I agree that if Mr. Neese has the money to pay he should pay. Whether it is a private loan to a bank or a public loan (albeit possibly illegal) from the city -- a debt is a debt and should be repaid.

I do dislike how Pokey turns the Neese issue into a Carrier vs Irons battle every time he posts, because there was and are more players involved in this issue than just those 2 politicians and one businessman, but I do think that Mr. Neese should pay up or should not be allowed to do business under any name in the city of Florence. If he can afford a $200 Business LIcense per business he runs -- that wuld be a good payment toward what he owes on his debts to the city -- at least a good faith effort...
Maybe he will give you a Low Interest, No Payback "LOAN" like he got. Then you can buy a house from him and anybody else too. Heck, you can even fix up buildings Downtown and have sycophants praise you for all you do for the "City" and all. A hundred thousand here, a hundred thousand here, a million here, a million there, pretty soon we're talking real money. It's real to us normal everyday regular people who are sick and tired of the corruption and arrogance of Official Florence, or in other words Old Florence. I hope New Florence takes over starting in August 2008. It can't come soon enough.
