quote:John McCain is not a war hero. He was a P.O.W. and he survived and that is amazing - it does not make him a hero. He led a mission, failed at that mission and was captured. The service says if you get your butt captured, that is a failed mission, it does not make you a hero.

Since when does being a vet make a person qualified to be president? And for that matter...take a look at your own signature. The "best we've ever had" (according to you) dodged going to war.

Clinton, the war hero, just doesn't sound right does it.
I'm sure THE community organizer will make a great Commander in Chief.

Clinton's success as president is clear proof that being a war hero is not necessarily a good thing for being a president, nor is it necessary.
Sleepyshoals mentioned several war heroes that became president. Of those, Washington's primary contribution was to resign after 2 terms setting the precedent until FDR won 4 times.
Jackson was not a particularly good president, Grant was a bad president, and Eisenhower, although an outstanding general, was not a very good president.
One war hero was an excellent president was Teddy Roosevelt. Our best president was not a hero and was in fact a cripple, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

I finally found one of the 9% of Americans that still think Bush is taking this country in the right direction.
In other words, slice, 91% of Americans disagree with you. Bush was a disaster, even your hero McCain thinks so and so do I.
I would also like to take this time to say to all of you people who voted for Bush: I TOLD YOU SO!

Religion may play a role, ''James Carville, have speculated that the "Bible belt" may extend further than the geographic American South. For instance, he states that much of rural Pennsylvania, which he referred to as "Alabama without the blacks", may be an extension of this belt; for instance, the Pennsylvania Dutch have much in common politically with the Southern Baptists. Some commentators have even gone so far as to state that most of small-town and rural America would qualify as a Bible Belt to at least some extent.''

I didn't say anything about approval ratings, I said only 9% think that this country is headed in the right direction. So I went back to my source for you and found that the poll has been updated. The percent of people who think that this country is headed in the right direction has dropped to 7%. OOPS.quote:

Could you document your assertion about PA Dutch and Southern Baptists? 1/4 of my family are PA Dutch, and I don't see many similarities. Regarding veterans status, how can Republicans say these things when they did all they could to destroy a decorated Viet Nam veteran's reputation in order to promote a draft dodger who used family ties to avoid even meeting his commitment to the national guard. I'll never forget one of the "swift boat" authors who was in high school with me. Pitiful then, and still. Bitter about anyone who had a life.

It's easy to forget what the GOP did to McCain in 2000. He was completely railroaded by the Bushies.
Now he hugs them?!?!
How could McCain let these same people run his campaign or even in the same room with him?

Why indeed did he choose Palin? The only answer that I can see is that she may help him win the election. After the election, then what? She is a one trick pony. I wish John McCain the best of health.

Now that might be one of the dumbest things this elitist has ever heard. Maybe not number one but top 40 for sure!

filterz your leftist myopia is showing again. Backwoods is exactly right. I have participated in several politcal phone surveys in the last 6 months and each one had the 'Direction' question.
I answered that the country was going in the wrong direction, and qualified it that the cause was TOO MANY LEFTIST DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS!!!! So I guess that makes me part of your 93%!!
Thank you for promoting the view point of people who actually love America!
