There is no spillway on the Cypress Creek dam. It is a low-head dam and a death trap. There is an easy portage trail on the right just before the dam. The dam is only 1/4 mile from the highway. Beyond that, unless we get torrential rains you won't even see a class 1. It's just a good lazy float. Watch out for snakes on the exposed stumps. When you pass the golf course be sure to hit a few balls back up the hill with your paddle. Wink

The lower American River is a nice lazy float, had a lot of fun there when I lived in Redding.

Capricorn too - probably the same person.

The Buffalo is great ! However, it is an all day commitment. We used to put in at the old iron ford on the Trace and go down about a day. Some good rapids . I never did it in a kayak though, canoes. In '63 I almost lost my life on that stretch.
