the map looks like they use AT&Ts 3G towers. if so, I note that florence is not currently on the map but should be as AT&T just activated a tower that covers most of florence.

i imagine the thing will use the edge network, too. much slower than 3g but that really isn't a factor for downloading book text. worst case is you have to rely on wireless hotspots (or the wireless in your home if you have it) for downloading.

Mine does not have 3G. It is able to pick up wifi signals, though, to post on Facebook from a selection I've made in the text, and also to download books that I've clicked on in the Amazon.com store. I love it. I did not think I would like a Kindle very much, since I love holding a real book in my hands. But--one day last week, I actually licked my finger to turn the page and I knew that my Kindle was perfect. From now on, I won't choose a regular book if it's available on Kindle.
