Jerry Hill and Gary (Dan) Williams will be running against each other in the upcoming Runoff election for Lauderdale Superintendent of Education.   Currently, that position is held by Jon Hatton.   I'm sure that each of the men running, Hill and Williams, are good men and each would do a good job but I plan to vote for Jerry Hill, who is the current principal at Brooks High School.  I've met, and talk to, Jerry Hill before he was running for this office and he has always impressed me as a very caring person and someone with good ideas for Education and keeping it local rather than jumping at the whims of Politicians a world away.

One thing that is very interesting to me, about the current race for Superintendent is the connection to the Killen area.  The current Superintendent, Jon Hatton, was the Principal at Brooks Elementary in Killen, Alabama for 12 years before he became Superintendent defeating Jennifer Gray, in 2016, who also was Vice Principal at Brooks Elementary from 2005.

The current candidates for the Superintendent position are Gary (Dan) Williams who is currently the Director at Allen Thornton Career Technical Center which is located in Center Star just past Killen, AL and Jerry Hill who is the current Principal at Brooks High School.  So it seems that the Brooks school district and the Killen area has been fertile ground for Lauderdale County Superintendents of Education.  Just kind of a curious thing that three of the Superintendents from 2012 to the current and next superintendent will have come from and had a history with the Killen/Brooks school area.

Again, I'm sure that each of the candidates, Jerry Hill and Gary (Dan) Williams would make a great Superintendent and I can't say anything negative about either one but I can say, and attest, that from my encounters with Jerry Hill he has impressed me as someone who legitimately cares about the kids in the area and is a very personable person who has no problem setting down and talking with anyone as if he knew you all along.  For that reason, I plan to support and vote for Jerry Hill in the upcoming Run Off.

In my lifetime I can think of only one superintendent from the western end of the county. It's always been dominated by the eastern half, but that half of the county has more people. A lot of back rubbing anyway.

Yes, I'll be voting for Jerry Hill. He's a good man and he's not conspiring behind the scenes with people who want their own agenda (as I've heard Williams is). Hill will work to make Lauderdale better, not his personal playground or revenge party.
