I have to agree with both of you however I have had good BBQ at Singleton's years ago. Outpost 72 used to have better than they do now but with TNT right across the road it's no contest.

One positive about the Shoals is that you can get most any type of BBQ here. By that I mean Carolina variety, Memphis, or Kansas City varieties for not to far a drive. Texas BBQ is good also but known more for the Beef than the Pork.
Don't know which Whitt's you are referring to but the one in Rogersville is dang good. Getting a Rick's in Elgin soon. I hope it's a good'un too. Seems that most barbecue joints go through phases or maybe it's just my taste buds. Don't gripe too much about any of them. My Yankee friends that visit always say how lucky we are down here to have so many choices when it comes to barbecue.
I think Whitt's in Rogersville has very flavorful, juicy pork BBQ, and I also love their slaw.

I love Jadd's burgers, but I got a BBQ sandwich there once, and it was drowned in a foul sauce and I couldn't tell if the pork was good; I couldn't taste it because of the sauce.

The worst BBQ I have had was at Tourway. Sure, it's not their specialty, but it is definitely my least favorite in the Shoals.

LOL!!!! Too funny Mrs. Carl. Foul sauce. I know what you're talking about. It was red wasn't it? Eww-ness.

You got it! It was very red and drippy---I tried a couple of bites before tossing it out and the mess was on my neck, down my arm, on my cheeks, beneath my fingernails. Rank! You'd be just as well to order a bun soaked in that sauce, because it was definitely the flavor dominator.

By that I mean Carolina variety,

Where would one find this variety around here? Carolina style BBQ hash served over a bed of rice is almost enough to convince me there is a god.

In my opinion, all Alabama BBQ sucks equally. However, one that did not suck too bad was a little joint near the 4-way stop sign in Lexington. Big ole sammiches and smoked right there in the place.
Before you can have the worst BBQ there has to be a best. Haven't found anything above mediocre, though I liked Famous Dave's.

Oddly, I tried Jadd's recently(and Monet, Jadd's is short for Jadd's Barbeque per their very large sign Smiler ), and was pleasently surprised. I was in a hurry and in the car, so I kinda wolfed it down. Plan on trying it again soon.

You know I thought Famous Dave's was pretty good, when they first opened. I did think they went down hill fast though and lost that quality. Maybe my taste isn't that critical though. Just curious if you thought that Famous Dave's (at first) had better than they ended up serving years later?

I never thought of Alabama style BBQ. The only types that I thought existed were North Carolina (Vinegar based like Southern BBQ serves), Texas (Beef Brisket style) , and Kansas City (Sweet like Ricks). Some people say Memphis style also (Dry) but like someone said in another post about the only famous Dry in Memphis is found at one place ( Rendezvous )
Everybody on this site but me hates Rick's. Is it a personal thing? I know some folks from L'burg who don't like Rick himself and won't eat the BBQ because of that.

Rick's never serves that nasty pork with fat and skin hanging on it like some of the others do. Maybe that's what you guys like that I don't.

I'm just curious as to why everyone hates Rick's.
