Subway is old and tired. Quizno's is good in Muscle Shoals and bad in downtown Florence. Lenny's beats all of them including sweet peppers (which is pretty good) hands down. The philly cheessteak with the hot pepper relish and mayo cannot be beat by ANYTHING at any of the other places. Wade Baker (the owner of Lenny's) is a class act and has done a great job.

Hmmmm....didn't realize that was a franchise.

not taking price into consideration, I would rank them this way.

1. Sweet Peppers, 2. Lenny's, 3. Quiznos, 4. Subway

I actually used to visit that station on Woodward and you could get a sub for about 2.00. I went there once during fair week and they guy wouldn't make me a sandwich. He said there was too much traffic from the fair and too many people were driving off without paying for gasoline. He wasn't nice about it either. I havent been back.
Mr. Baker,
It is tacky for you to jab your critic in such a manner.

I have been to Lenny's. The service was ridiculously slow. Slow enough for me to weigh the opportunity cost of paying $10+ for a meal there. Seriously, I thought if I am paying that for a sub, I had rather have a sirloin and salad with grilled veggies and that is exactly what I did. I walked out and went elsewhere for lunch.
Love Lenny's! Place your order, fix your drink and sit down. They will bring your sandwich to you. Wade sold Muscle Shoals store and the new owners are terrific people. Service is good and staff is very friendly. Mile high turkey is super. Love grilled pepper and onion on my philly cheese (absolutely loaded with meat). Hot dog is the best. Prices very reasonable and specials run constantly. Occasionally eat at Peppers and Subway but atmosphere at Lenny's, Muscle Shoals, is something special. I'm ok with their prices, too. Do not like Quiznos. Ate at Lenny's for lunch Sunday and there was standing room only. Always visit Muscle Shoals Lenny's. Don't know about Florence.
I've lived and worked in many places and I do like Lenny's but only for their #11 Philly Beef n Cheese but it's not the best I've had. For sub shops I have no reservations in the following ratings:

#1 - Firehouse Subs (Closest is Huntsville, I believe)

#2a - Jason's Deli (far ahead of McCalisters in selection, quality and taste and the closest is in Huntsville (behind IHOP on University)
#2b - Jimmy John's - None remotely close

#4 - Quizno's

#5 - Sweet Peppers

I have not tried Jersey Mikes, which is located in Huntsville also but I have heard good things about it. I have tried McAllisters Deli in Pigeon Forge, TN, Birmingham, AL, and Corinth, MS and I would encourage those of you that are very high on McAllisters to try Jason's Deli, in Huntsville, behind IHOP on University drive and in the same complex as Five Guys.

My wife also loved SubZone but I believe most of those are no longer in business but they were very good subs (wonder why they went out of business?)

if my food is cooked fresh, i don't mind the wait and it never takes more than 5 minutes. if you would rather have your food sitting under a heat lamp for god knows how long, then go for it.

a $10.00 sandwich is the large sandwich that can feed two. i buy the regular size for $6.00 and usually have a coupon for free chips and drink.
I think Lenny's is, by far, the best of the four. Of course, I haven't had a ton of variety from Lenny's. I generally just get the philly steak, which is the best I have ever had in this area. Yeah it takes a little longer than the others, but it's not like it unbelievably long.

Second I would have Sweet Peppers. Don't go there much, but like their variety and love their potato salad. Third I would go Subway. Subway is always solid IMO. It's easy to bash them, but I will always like their sandwiches. 4th is Quiznos. Quiznos is good, but the meat I get is always tough, and the one in Florence will skimp on the meat big time.

I agree with what someone said earlier about Jason's Deli. I haven't ate at a Firehouse yet, but Jasons is magnificent. It easily beats all four of those local chains.

I also love Great Wraps in Huntsville, but last time I went through it appeared to be closed. Not sure if it is for good or if it were for renovations or if they were moving locations.

While on the subject, has anyone tried Atlanta Bread Company? Been wanting to give it a try but really haven't heard anything about it.
