I said link, but will add that I don't mind a partial copy/paste if it's the portion you want to respond to. It's no different than quoting a portion of a post on the forums & then responding to that portion. In fact, this helps me to better see their point.

I (almost always) dislike a copy/paste of an article with no personal comments. It seems pointless to me. Most of us read the news on news websites. JMHO

Also, when someone provides a link to a fun website, that does have a point. It has entertainment value & usually results in comments about the outcome...won, lost, fun, didn't like it, etc.
Hi all,

Personally, I agree with both Joy and MoM; a short synopsis of the article -- and the link for those who want to verify what was said and/or read the full article.

If the article is short; possibly a person can copy/paste the article. However, just pasting the article without your own comments to support or debate what is said -- is boring. We come on the forum to exchange ideas with other forum members -- not to read columnists. When I want to read columnists, I go to that section of the paper or internet. I am on the forum to know what my home town Friends think and feel.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
IMO, the whole point of a forum is to engender thought.

Whether it be serious or humorous, it requires thinking.

The ability to express oneself is paramount to that process.

Again, IMO, merely copy/pasting a story doesn't adequately express the individual's opinions or thoughts on the matter.

Yet with regard to the issue of hypertext protocols, I prefer to show the name of the link to authenticate the source. For example, if a story or claim to such comes from "MyWhackedOutMediaSource.com" then, I consider the source as inauthentic (as compared, for example, to a ".gov" site).

It takes brainpower to explain. Some folks, while they're capable, are lazy, or don't want to take the time to express themselves. (Kind'a sounds like the definition to 'lazy,' doesn't it?)

Others, can't be convinced (or rather, don't want to be).

So, to ask "Link or copy/paste?" is itself inauthentic in a sense, because it neither provides opportunities for the sharing party to express their opinion.
