I am hoping to get some feedback on this thread about good veterinarians in the area - and possibly those offices that are best avoided. Of course, the Restaurant Talk post has been really informative to read, as was one on the local garages and mechanics. My own experience with veterinarians is that they are a lot like mechanics: some are trustworthy, reliable, and nice, and others are either incompetent or else they will try to charge you to fix ANYthing they think is "wrong" at the moment.

Not to be selfish, but we are in need of a veterinarian! We just adopted a puppy from a local shelter. Our elderly dog recently passed away. My experience during those years was that word of mouth is the best indicator of the good vets in the area. Our former vet is a far drive from the Shoals, so we're looking for someone closer.

If you have pets, or if you know about vets in the area, please speak up! Like the restaurant owners on the Restaurant Talk section, I'm sure they will appreciate your support for their good work. Who would you recommend in Florence, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, or Muscle Shoals? Anybody to avoid?

I just lost my best friend to (Lymphomia) Cancer (Scottish Terrier)and had went to Dr. Smith's Clinic just off highway 72 near downtown ( we're new to the area. sorry!)for suggestions on when the best time to have him given back to God.
My wife called several times, and he, and his staff seemed very aware, and concerned how much we loved our Dog, and was curtious to the point of not charging, or demanding we bring him in each time, that alone saving us the expense's a retired couple don't have in these times. We will always be grateful to how his Staff treated us upon bringing him in for the final time, and the professionalism they showed in our distress.
Yes and Dr. Smith is priced resonable enough even for a Retired couple THANK You DR.Smith and your wonderful Staff
Shoals Animal Hospital
We have used several different vets over the years here in the shoals..the best we found for being the most thor-ough...is Dr. Lowery on Avalon Ave, Muscle Shoals...He has all of his lab work, x-rays, etc readily available in his office. But I will tell you up front, he is not the cheapest...Some vets will perform spadings and neuterings without any pain blocker so they can charge less...Dr. Lowery will tell you in a heart beat to get the hell off of his property, if you tell him you do not want to pay for pain medication or deadning before the operation.
He has been in the business for several years, and has a great reputation.

Our "kids" like Dr. Cotton on Woodward Avenue. But the best in our area is William Allen (Russellville Animal Hospital) down in Russellville - well worth the drive.

My "kids" LOVE Dr. Cotton... I guess it is because she is female and can be so calming to the animals, it is obvious that she LOVES animals!!!!

I like Dr. Connolly on HWY 72 in Florence. They are not cheap. The doctors and workers are good to my 2 dogs.

Dr. Connolly was great to my dog in his last days. He was 13 and simply suffered from old age, but Dr. Connolly did what he could to help him and make him comfortable before we decided to put him down. He and his staff were very kind and supportive during that difficult time and sent us a very kind sympathy card afterwards.

I highly recommend Dr. Connolly, one of the best places for your pets in the area.
