In the past, my grandmother would spend the summer at my house and supervise my children. She is no longer able to do that and I am looking for alternatives for my soon to be 10 year old daughter. My husband and I work during the day. Does the YMCA do day camps similar to the current after school program? Help. I haven't used daycare since she was 5 and really don't know what other options are available.

The YMCA does summer camps but I don't know about any of the details. Muscle Shoals City Schools has a "summer camp" and my son LOVES it. Every year he asks me if he is going... he will be sad when he is too old to go. They have a field trip every week and go swimming three or four days a week. They do plenty of arts and craft there each week too. And the staff... can't be beat!
I am quite certain you do NOT have to go to school at Muscle Shoals to participate in summer camp... in fact, I know you don't. I forgot I had a friend who brought her kids and they did not live in Muscle Shoals or attend Muscle Shoals. Unless, things have changed since last year that wouldn't be a problem.

I'm sorry Grandmother is no longer an option...clearly the best option...that said, I believe the Muscle Shoals City School program is the best option. YMCA probably has a good program for older children but I would not want it for a ten year old daughter.
Thanks for the info and PM. I called MS on Friday afternoon. Hopefully I can get her in there. I have registered her for one of the UNA summer programs but it is only 9-12 for one week.

Sheldivr, I so hate that my grandmother is not able to travel and stay with us during the summer. Some of my greatest times were spent with her and I am glad that my children have also had quality time with her. She turned 90 in November!! I hope we have many more years with her but realize that may not be the case.
I have a 9 yr old and 12 yr old and we live in the Killen area. I work part time but usually 5 days a week. If anyone knows of a high-schooler looking to make a few bucks I really need to find someone for the summer. It would only be 4-5 hours a day so it wouldnt eat up their whole day. If anyone knows of anyone please pm me for contact info.
