Gas stations today have to charge enough for a gallon of gas to cover overhead(electricity, employee pay, etc.)and still make a profit. What if there were freestanding gas pumps, you slide your debit or credit card in get your gas and receipt, like most people already do now. How much do you suppose a gallon of gas would be if there were no extra charges for overhead that station owners have to meet? I'm thinking gas might be at least a dollar cheaper.

What do ya'll think?
I've recently obtained a new, more positive outlook on life. Things are not always as they seem nor as bad as we think they are. Thank you Lord for opening my eyes!

It's an interesting concept but I'm not sure how well it would go over with the convenience stores who depend on gas customers who also come into the store and buy other things like food, drinks and cigarettes with their gas.

Then there is the question of someone monitoring the fuel levels which I guess could be done by someone during odd hours. Again, I like the idea just not sure how it would work is all.
Gas prices vary from City to City, County to County and State to State because of the built in fuel tax rates. There is a main terminal in Birmingham that all the area fuel trucks to go. Everyone (say Exxon) Pays the same "rack" price. but the tax structure is different. These rates are not posted on the pumps, but I wish they were. You would be shocked at how much tax you pay on a gallon- another "hidden" tax.
Probably so. I just don't go to stations that do not have pay at the pump . Usually to fill up, you have to go in and leave your credit card (God only knows who is copying your numbers down to buy a bamboo steamer on TV), go back out, pump, come back in and pay.
Screw all that. I'll pay a few cents more just to pay at the pump.
