PRATTVILLE (AP) — Authorities say a Prattville man has been given a three-day jail sentence for contempt of court for wearing so-called saggy pants in public.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports that 20-year-old LaMarcus D. Ramsey was in Autauga County Circuit Court to enter a plea on a charge of receiving stolen property. It wasn't known early Wednesday whether Ramsey has an attorney.

Circuit Judge John Bush told Ramsey that his blue jeans were sagging too low. The three-day stint will be served in the Autauga Metro jail.

The judge told Ramsey to buy pants that fit or a belt when he gets out of jail.

i believe the charge was "contempt of court." in other words, don't **** the judge off.

The charge was contempt of court.  Judges have leeway within their court rooms for such charges.  Common sense would tell someone to go to court not dressed like a fool, showing disrespect.  On the street, the idiot could have dressed as he did.  Hint to the clueless:  Don't go into a burning building wearing gasoline soaked clothing.

I agree. You have to keep in mind some people have no common sense to speak of. It is not surprising to me in the least. I have even heard of people going to drug court with bags of weed or pills stuffed down their pants and getting caught. How stupid can a person be?

I wonder just how many of the kids running around with their pants half way to their knees know where that trend originated?   I wonder just how many know what that gesture was really saying to those peers around them.

For those who don't know it was a trend that started in prison and it was an open invitation to signify that the person, who's pants were hanging low, was willing to be used as a female by their male comrades behind bars.  Well that's a gentle way of putting the way it was told to me.  If anyone else has a conflicting explanation of it's origin I'm open to hearing it.
