I always wondered whatever became of this. So, he's going to be on probation for 17 years?

A Florence man charged in connection with the 2010 robbery of a Phil Campbell bank has pleaded guilty to first-degree theft of property and been sentenced to serve more than three years in prison, officials said today.

Courthouse officials said Ronald Pollard, 51, of 2011 Hixon Ave., Florence, was sentenced to 20 years with the sentence split and three years and a day to serve in prison and the remainder on probation.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Pollard has been in jail since his arrest in October 2010.

Pollard had been charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the September 23, 2010, robbery of the Phil Campbell branch of CB&S Bank.

Rushing said the agreement to allow Pollard to plead to the lesser charge of first-degree theft of property was made after consulting with bank officials and law enforcement officials involved in the investigation.

Police said a man entered the bank and handed a teller a note and threatened to shoot her if she didn’t comply with his demands. Once he got the money, police said the robber left on foot. Two tellers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was hurt.

Pollard is being held in the Franklin County Jail until being transferred to a Department of Corrections facility.

I (sorta) know this guy. He used to do some work for the company I worked for about 4 years ago. He was such a nice guy. I remember him as being so honest in his work and such a hard worker. I was shocked when this happened. I had heard he had a gambling problem and just could not stop. So sad because he had a teenage son that seemed to really look up to him.

I wonder if the time he has already served will go towards his sentence?
