Can anyone tell me about the older man I saw walking down Dr. Hicks today carrying a big white cross on his back like Christ?

No, I'm totally serious. He looked to be 70+ and the white painted cross was old and faded and it had a small set of wheels on the back.

There is some kind of well-known exhibitionist named Arthur Blessit who has been doing that kind of thing for years. Maybe it was he.

You can buy some Blessit goods here:

As he gets even older, look for him to put a little motorized assist device on his cross to power his wheels.
Blessit should have been born around 300-400 A.D. He could have fit in well with the eccentric monks and hermits who did strange things in the name of religion.

I saw a black man with a sandwich board sign with a lot of jibberish written on it. He carried a mannequin. I saw him in Athens and a few days later in Florence. Really strange.

I saw him too when I was at the four way stop behind Braly Stadium on Tuesday. He smiled and waved at me so I did the same. I assume he was just advertising his Christianity across town. Which is fine...he has the right to do that.

I would assume he is presenting a Christian message but I can't help but think Christ would have him, and the rest of us, take up the cross by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the lonely and those in prison and giving drink to the thirsty. "Christians" seem to forget he said, "Feed my sheep," not take up the cross, literally.

Maybe he can't afford to feed the hungry, clothe the naked or shelter the homeless. He does visit with people and share his testimony and love for Christ. He stopped and spoke with me when he was in my neighborhood. Sometimes when people are at the lowest point in life and feel like they have nothing, they see him and they are reminded of Jesus dying on the cross for them. Sometimes all it takes is a simple reminder that we are loved.

seems like we all need to take a step back sometimes instead of making impulse judgements, myself included. The decisions we make, when emotions run high, are very seldom good ones
