A Huntsville City school bus has flipped off I-565 near the Church Street overpass in Huntsville critically injuring at least 30 students.

The bus was enroute from Lee High School to Drake State Technical College the area technical school.

Laidlaw is the contractor that runs the busses. Laidlaw also runs the busses for Florence city schools.

NewsChannel 19 is following breaking news on Church Street, under the I-565 overpass. Huntsville Police are at the scene, along with dozens of paramedics.

A bus from Lee High School was on its daily route to Drake State Technical School, when it flipped off the Interstate. More than 30 students were on board. A number of them were critically hurt. NewsChannel 19 is trying to confirm how many students, if any, were killed.

Parents at the scene tell NewsChannel 19 crews their children called them from cell phones as soon as the bus hit the ground, and they rushed to the scene.

Huntsville Police are asking parents to go to Huntsville Hospital, to the admitting department, to find out more. Please do not go to the crash site or the emergency room. Paramedics and emergency personnel are attending to injured victims at both scenes.

NewsChannel 19's Amber Stuart is at Huntsville Hospital, and reports at least a dozen ambulances have brought students there. They are taking the less-seriously injured students to other local hospitals, including Crestwood Medical Center, Decatur General Hospital, and Athens-Limestone Hospital.

Dr. Ann Roy Moore, superintendent of Huntsville City Schools, is at Huntsville Hospital to talk with parents.

Please do not drive near Huntsville Hospital until the scene is clear. Police are blocking off streets near the hospital, to allow ambulances to take injured victims to the emergency room as quickly as possible.

NewsChannel 19 has a crew at the crash site, and at Huntsville Hospital. Stay with NewsChannel 19 and WHNT.com for more details as we learn them.
Want to know what really happened? I clicked twice on the forward button and I was half asleep. Also I had read the article about the aneurysm that bus driver apparently had in the Birmingham news yesterday. I thought when I saw this "good lord, they really, really need to screen their drivers!"

I don't have time to be bored today. I've got turkey, ham, dressing, giblet gravy on the stove right now, and I have two cakes and a dozen raspberry tarts to make, along with sweet potatoes, creamed potatoes, brussel sprouts, corn, fuit salad, rolls and pumpkin and pecan pie to make before 12. I'm just putting it off for a minute.
Shoals Lover ressurected!!!!

Lordy mercy, SMURPH will remember the battles on the OLD forum with Shoals Lover and his copy/pasting, right???

But all in all, I guess he was a pretty good guy. Smiler
