As a matter of fact, I did eat there yesterday.
they still have some issues to work out and I was not pleased when I left. i ordered the Tostaguac lunch, when he brought it out it did not have any rice or beans, for some reason I thought it came with them? any rate I brought it to his attention and said to make sure I am not charged for the rice and beans since I did not receive them. The price for what I ordered was $4.29, what they charged me for the Tostaguac without the rice and beans was $3.99, a whopping whole .30 less. I told them not to expect me back!
Even though they do have good salsa Verde, the food was nothing great, so I will go to one of the other three Mexican restaurants that are each less than two miles away.
you guys should not support illegal immigrants moving into our area and by eatting at mazatlin, you're putting money in their pockets and they are moving their families here to work there. most all of them (that work there) don't speak english which tells you they shouldn't be here.
eat at rosie's or la fondas where the owners are american citizens and don't hire illegal immigrants.

How do you know they are illegal?

If you know they are illegal then contact the Florence Police Department

If the FPD does nothing then write a editorial in the TD

Contact Lou Dobbs and let him know how the FPD did NOTHING

If you know for a fact they are illegal then certainly they will be arrested
I'm always surprised at how many of the non-English speaking Hispanics are here legally. They aren't US citizens, but are in the country legally. Indeed, many are here illegally, but be careful of assumptions, because I think many would be amazed at how many have permission to be in our country.

The owner of La Fonda's is so nice, but the only thing I've found there that is usually edible, is the cheese burger, which defeats the purpose of going out for Mexican food. I can't even stand the chips, salsa, and cheese dip.

I haven't tried Mazatlan yet, and so far it's not at the top of our list of restaurants to try.
For my part Mazatlan had good chips and salas but the meal was not as good as some of the other Mexican restaurants. As far as LaFonda I'd not enter the door after the experience that my wife had there. She got COLD food and complained and the manager told her there was no way it was cold. After arguing with them he finally conceded that it was but wasn't about to not charge her even though she didn't eat anything at all off the plate. The other people with her interceded and he didn't charge her but they all said their meal was terrible and wouldn't be back either.

Mazatlan has a way to go and maybe it will get better in the future.

The BEST Mexican restaurant I have ate at was a LaPrilla down in McDonough, GA exit 221 on I75. Around here I like Rosie's but I think the Huntsville restaurant is better than the Florence location.
I have ate at LaFondas for ages. I think George and family are excellent hosts and I have always enjoyed the food there. On the weekends I also (if I ever get out) find the atmosphere very appealing to an adult that wants to socialize, have a social drink, dance, hear great live music without the "meat market" college adolescent atmosphere of most of the alternatives in this area.

We ate at Mazatlan last night. Definitely unimpressive. Rosie's is much better. The salsa seems to be just a blend of tomatoes and nothing else and is like a thick tomato juice. The sauce on the enchiladas was not good. We will be going to Rosie's instead.

Rosie's is not authentic Mexican food. The best authentic Mexican food in Florence is La Hacienda hands down.
I agree. I do not think Rosie's is "authentic" Mexican food.

However, I do not know what is. Mexican food has transitioned into a broad category of food that includes many different types of "Mexican food". There is Cali-Mex, Tex-Mex, New Mexico-Mex, Northern-Mexican-border Mex, Central-Mexico Mex; you get the idea. Every region and now almost every restaurant have their own take on what they consider to be "Mexican".

Bottom line is, if you enjoy it (no matter what it is called) accept it at its face value and eat hearty! Big Grin
La Fonda's is foul. My friend and I went there because they were having some kind of margarita special. The tequila in it was so cheap that I could feel it burning my nose hairs when I smelled it, and that has got to be one of the most poorly ventilated places I've been in. I could barely see my friend sitting across the table from me in the haze of smoke. The food is nothing to write home about either.

At least you had tequila in your margarita there. I've tried a couple of times, and both times it was just iced syrup that made me feel nauseated due the the high sugar content. Yuck! Everything there = yuck.

I'm curious as to which location you had this unfortunate and horrible experience at?

I answered this is another post where you had asked, but I read the original post before it was deleted, and it was Florence/Cox. Cr.
