I have been meaning to post this for a long time.

Let me start off by saying I think the actual coffee products at mcdonalds are good...IF MADE RIGHT

I am a coffee house fanatic. I make daily trips to le beou's, mug.com, mcgraws or other places for my daily latte or cappucino.

Being a diabetic, I am picky about what I get. I always get a skinny sugar free something.

When I first saw mcdonalds offered non-fat milk and sugar free vanilla as latte or cappucino options, I was intrigued. Now, Let me say, the actual product, if made right, is very good. But HERE IS THE PROBLEM...

I go in "welcome to mcdonalds. how may I help you?".. "yes, I would like a non-fat sugar free vanilla latte". Ok, comprises of 6 words. But I get the same reaction EVERY TIME.. a complete blank stare.. "whoah..whoah..whoah..slow down..you want a..a.. non fat..non fat..um..hrm..sugar free vanilla....latte?... hm... " *punches around on keyboard..punches around on keyboard.. asks for help from somebody else* .. then they ask again what I want. Once I had to explain to 4 different people what I wanted before a shift manager finally made it. These are not just some teenagers. These are the same people that have been working there for 5 years. Every time I go in, the person who takes my order can never make the drink. They just stare at the machine and go "um..let me get somebody to make it for you." Why the hell do they even work there?

Now, you can see the machine that makes the coffee drinks at the woodward location. That's the one i visit most of the time. All they have to do is push the no fat button, add syrup and mix drink. I asked for a non-fat sugar free vanilla late. I stood there and watched the girl mix a regular milk, fully sugared latte. I said to her "um..that was not what I ordered." She acted all pissed off. She threw the drink in the garbage and made it right.

Other things that happen at the ms location. When I order it non-fat, the machine only fills the cup up about half way full. So, the morons, just hit the regular milk button to finish filling it up. Hm, thats not right either.

I have given McCafe so many chances. I love the product and the 3.50$ price tag. But ****, the customer service is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

It's the fact that the people behind the counter (in general) aren't making high wages and don't care that much about what they do. One could take it seriously, work hard, manage, etc..but most don't care. That's why you get the service you get at Wal Mart.

The McCafe thing is totally automated, and it also dispenses the milk. Really though, much of the Starbucks type machines are automated, though they do steam the milk by hand.

I wish they'd stop putting "Mc" in front of everything. I see why they do, but it makes everything sound silly.

because I almost always have my children with me (only got out twice by myself since June 28--when DH left on his latest deployment, he's home now so I can go by myself again, YAY). I cannot enjoy the other places--sitting and reading a book or chatting with friends--when I have to chase kids.
Do you really expect that they get a lot of business? Not discounting the local businesses, but they are targeting Starbucks and Dunkin Doughnuts which are not in the area, and likely is just being held because a franchise mandate. Probably need to see how it is in say Huntsville or some larger area to see if it your complaints are chronic or not.

Well, according to the employees I have talked to, they sell a lot of McCafe drinks. I assume the problem arises with making speciality drinks. People around here are not inclined to order anything sugar free or fat free. Maybe thats why i get the "what the hell" look when i order a non-fat latte. lol
Starbucks definitely aint for everybody, i for one do love it when going to Athens or Huntsville. dunkin donuts is probably my favorite but too bad there isnt one around here. I've yet to have one of these from Mcdonalds, guess because i prefer to have Joe muggs here in town, and the price is pretty much on par. it sucks though that you can't get descent service at a place even if it is just some fast food joint.
I have problems, too, Boogie. I like to order a large non-fat hot mocha from McDonald's. When it is made correctly, it is delicious. It's just that it's a gamble, and I usually lose. One time I ordered it and I noticed that the screen didn't show the drink as being non-fat, so I reiterated to the drive-thru worker that I wanted it non-fat. The screeen never changed, so I pulled to the window and told him again, and you know what he told me? He said, "I couldn't find non-fat on the register, maybe you can catch them [second window workers] in time to tell them non-fat".

I just thought, "wow, what an idiot", took my full fat mocha and was on my way. I've already accepted that by continuing to patronize the N. Florence McDonald's, I'm at least a little masochistic.
It's bad enough that he couldn't find the right button on the register, but it was over the top that he didn't voluntarily warn me that I wasn't going to get the drink as ordered, then it took it to a whole new level when he didn't tell his co-workers who were in the same building as him to make it non-fat, but instead expected that to be my responsibility, you know, if I could make it to the other window in time. They don't even open the window until they have the order ready to hand to you!

"Oily sheen"?? Wasn't he just in the news for assaulting his wife?

I think so Lynn not only did he assault his wife but he lubed his hair again before heading to the BIG HOUSE Big Grin
The iced coffees at McDs aren't bad at all. The coffees and cappucinons aren't the best I've ever had, but nowhere near as bad as described. I think the standard cappucinos are all sugar free anyway. Every time them I've asked them to put a certain number of splendas in they've done it no problem. The only time they haven't is when I've not asked.
ok i meant to say any beverage a person purchases shouldnt cost more than a dollar plus tax especially coffee of any sort coffee is cheap buy the cup only costs a few cents and mcdonalds coffee especially they mark it up so freaking high just to make it sound like its some premium gourmet coffee when its the same stuff that they sell plain with none of the fancy stuff in it. so really a plain coffe should cost around .30 cents and the mccafe garbage should cost .69 cents realistically.
Homer, you need to move out from under your parents roof and experience the real world.

Cost does not drive demand. Supply does. You learn this somewhere in the 11th grade if you make it that far. Lowering cost isn't necessarily going to increase sales by a comparable margin.

Take you Krispy Kreme theory for example. You say each donut is currently $1, and you suggest they should lower their price to $.25 each. Do you you think this going to increase sales by 400%? Or did I just blow your mind? The only thing this will accomplish will be cutting gross revenues by at least half.

Cost isn't as great a factor when it comes to cheaper items (food items under $5 for example). They are donuts not new cars.
Ive held my current job for over 10 years, before that I successfully ran a Business as a restaurant manager, and I left to get out of the foodservice business to use my technical skills, i bet thats surprising and I have a Computer Repair Business that is very successful and I charge way lower rates than anyone in the area might I add that having a lower Cost has helped business tremendously.
In the KK example, they would have to increase sales MUCH more than 400% to make the same amount of actual profit. If sales only increased 400%, that means dollar revenues would be equal (at 25 cents a donut), but KKs costs would be 4 times higher, because they have to make 4 donuts for the same $1. They would likely have to increase sales 20 times or more to make the same profit.
Glad to hear that Homer. I used to be guilty of wanting to be the cheapest and 'fairest'. The last thing I wanted to hear was someone saying that I ripped them off or charged them an amount that was not comparable with the current market rate. I hurt myself with this for a while.

I eventually realized that I had to raise my prices. It's great to be noble and try to be the nicest guy, but in the end, it is all about one thing. Profit.

No harm in raising your prices. Especially if you provide a better service than the competitor down the road.

I guess what I'm getting to, and it applies to all of your posts here today, is.....

You get what you pay for.
