The Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, said Tuesday that a bipartisan budget deal with President Obama was probably out of reach, and he proposed a plan under which the president could increase the federal debt limit without Congressional approval for offsetting spending cuts.

Mr. McConnell’s proposal would give Mr. Obama sweeping power to increase the government’s borrowing authority, in increments, by up to $2.4 trillion — enough, it is estimated, to cover federal obligations through next year — only if Mr. Obama specified spending cuts of equal amounts. But Congress would not have to approve the spending cuts prior to the debt-limit increase.

Entitlement spending cant be cut as its a law, not an appropriation.

Entitlement spending, of course, may be cut, by act of Congress.  It doesn't take an act of God.  The inflation factor may be lowered.  That has already been suggested.  Social security was indexed from 65 to 67 and could be further indexed.  Medicare could be indexed, as well.  Both could be means tested.

McConnell is proposing that Congress abdicate its primary responsibility and give actual control of the discretionary budget to Mr. OBama.  The Congress will maintain control of the entitlement spending as a matter of law, which so far, Mr. OBama cannot circumvent.

This is a huge power shift in our government, more so than a line item veto.  Mr. OBama will be the closest thing to a King the USA has has so far.  Long Live OBama!

McConnell has tendered his resignation to the voters.  As stated before, the Republican House should present two bills, one for a $1 trillion increase, with a corresponding $1 trillion in cuts and a second for $2 trillion, with a corresponding $2 trillion in cuts.  Passed, they may then tender any blame to Reid and the Senate, or Obama.

For one thing, it's unconstitutional. Congress cannot give away its powers that are delegated by the constitution. For another, it would not be just King Obama. All presidents that follow would have the power as well. Think of Queen Sarah in your nightmares.

McConnel has said that his main goal is defeating Obama, and he will do anything to achieve that goal, including wrecking the world economy. He cares about nothing else. Fortunately, he is headed for failure. When Republicans continue to attack teachers, policemen, firemen and other working people, it is bound to eventually catch up with them. Americans are dumb, but they aren't that dumb.

Actually Americans are that dumb. We have been operating outside of the Constitution for quite some time now, with both parties thumbing their noses at the people they are supposed to represent. Guess what, they keep getting re-elected.
