Briefly, a sociology student posted a fake quote into the Wikipedia article for Maurice Jarre (Academy Award winning composer) shortly after his recent death. Wikipedia's editors picked up on the fact that it was unattributed and purged it..... but, not before several "news" sources picked it up and used it in their obituaries without trying to check the source.

Only one newspaper has admitted to the error, several have changed their online obituaries, and several still are using the quote.

Is it possible to have too much news? - I think yes.

I also wonder if the AP article is based on real information. Eeker
