Well, I am having to start a new thread because some individuals decided to hijack the other thread, causing ADMIN to justifiably lock it....

Anyways, looks like they are starting from scratch. The same doc who saw me Monday, she saw me today, and was shocked at what she saw. They drew more blood. They are starting to rule-out strep and possibly mono or tonsilitis....

They gave me another pain-killer and it works...Although it is very hard to swallow. I am having fainting-weak spells due to lack of food (I can't swallow but only jello, pudding, soup, etc.) I am hydrated, but not enough to where I would think I need to be.
Fevers I am able to control.

If anyone has any ideas, remedies, etc. I am open to anything right now. I wish this on no one.

Brentenman. GET SOME ENSURE PLUS, or a store brand of the same kind of supplement. It costs, on the economy about a dollar per eight ounce can. It is 350 calories per can, contains a balance of vitamins and minerals, comes in several flavors, can be consumed cold or room temperature. Will maintain hydration, and will provide caloric requirements all by itself, but should not be used as the only source of nutrition, unless you are also SERIOUSLY constipated. Varieties include Diabetic formulations and low colestoral formulas. There is NONE that is delicious, but My prefereance is the Wallgreens Drug Store brand.
None of them interfer with any drug therapy, so far as I know.
If you are in need of maintaining weight you can blend a can with a couple of scoops of ice cream and make a pretty good milkshake.
Walgreens also sells a generic throat spray, brand name, OraRelief. It is very effective in soothing throat pain, So effective it will make your lips go numb for a minute or two. It also reduces inflamation so that it is easier to talk.
I didn't read the other thread, so I'm not sure about your case.

Do you have a lump on one side of your throat?
My wife thought she had strep a few weeks ago. Her throat stopped hurting for a week or so, then started again this Monday. Then we thought she had mono. She could barely swallow and there was a big lump on the side of her throat.

It turns out that it was a blocked saliva gland. The doc gave her some antibiotics and it has gotten much better in the last 2 days.

Pedialite (not sure of the spelling) is good also. Especially if the Ensure is too thick for you to get down. It will keep your chakras lined up. The ER should be able to IV you if it is too painful.

It is justifiably locked due to hijacking.

Anyways, I am thinking mono or tonsilitis.....

The lympth nodes in my neck, glands, etc. are all swollen, and my tonsils are swelled, nasty, turbid, red, pussed-over. And every time I swallow, it hurts, and I can hear my ears "pop".

Well, time to call the doc to see if they have a diagnosis yet from the blood they drew from me today...
I don't know what it is that you have, but I hope you feel better soon! My roommate used to make a tea for me when I was sick that REALLY helped my throat (I get strep a lot).

Boil some water and add some shaved ginger root.
Steep like you would tea for about five minutes.
Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a teaspoon of honey.

That makes my throat feel fantastic and ginger is supposed to be pretty good for you. Good luck!

Hey B -- what did the doc say? YOu gonna make it? I agree with Ed, get the Ensure to keep your strength up and Heub on the Pedialyte -- I think Pedialyte has several different liquid products you could try -- they taste better to me than the Ensure does.

Rest up!
Brenten...I have never tried Pedialite, mostly because I think it has a lot of sweeteners, not that Ensure is sugar free, but it is available Sugar Free. Most of the calories in the Adult liquids are from either milk or soy protein. And Vegetable fats.
What you describe sounds REALLY painful. I will say again, get some throat spray. It's anestetic. If you decide to go with that tea I can guarantee that the Ginger adds to it. But if your throat is really raw it might be like drinking fire. Use the spray after the tea, since the tea will rinse away the spray.
Well, it is worse.....I puked in the infectious diseases doctor's office today...I couldn't hold it anymore...It was aweful. They come up every 6 months from FT Sam Houston to check on the health/welfare of the prisoners in the military DB. The doc I had been seeing wanted them (3 doctors total, specialists in their field) to check me out....They said I most certainly do not have strep, nor mono, some type of vile virus infection.

In fact, puked 4 times today, and finally got the IV I had been wanting so badly.

I also gave up my 3rd set of blood samples....I am getting picked on badly...LOL

Tomorrow, I go to Kansas City, MO to the ENT specialist... I hope it ends...I will now have been out 1 week of school, sick for 1 whole week straight. I have never done that before since I had chicken pox in 1st grade.

This sux.

Sorry to hear that you are so sick. I have pretty severe allergy/sinus problems too. I take Emergen-C. It is a powder that you mix with warm or cold water. You can buy at GNC or Walgreen's pharmacy. It has 1000 mg of vitamin C and 32 other mineral complexes and B vitamins. It comes in multiple flavors. All taste pretty good. I was very skeptical at first because I am NOT one who likes to take medicine (until I got high blood pressure at 34, can you believe it?). Send your wife after some if possible. It runs $12-13 for 36 packets. You can take them 2-4 times a day.

Hope you get to feeling better! Let us know what you got. Sounds terrible!

Keep us posted on what the ENT doc says,

Prayers for ya!!
Latest Update:

I saw the ENT doctor today. He has an office here in Leavenworth, as well as KC, MO...so that was good, no traveling.

Diagnosis: Viral/Bacterial Tonsilitis. HIGHLY contagious. Spread by bacteria. Z-pak antibiotics are no good for treating it. Must use penincillin to treat it. He gave me another prescription of penincillin, and some liquid pain medicine (why on earth, he asked, with your throat looking like death and cess pool, are they still giving you pills?). Next, I am still out of work/class until they tell me I can...so my next appointment is for next Wed....He said the docs around here just try to treat for strep. He said if I go to ER again, give them his card. He said it will take several days if not weeks to be fully cured. I told them I have lost 10 pounds...they said when all is said and done, I will have lost 15 pounds or so...and PT test in 3 weeks? They said that was out of the question..as my body is ravaged by bacteria and other cess-nastiness.

Good news: I finally ate some real food today. Some eggs, grits, and grapejuice (diluted and iced). I also downed a Sonic Smoothie strawberry-bananna drink. Throat is still sore, and sometimes, I have garbage filling it up I have to clear out, but hopefully, yesterday was the worst.

I talked to some other friends of mine....1 has my symptoms....he just got over strep 2 weeks ago in fact. Another is developing something also similar. I told them both to get penincillin and stay away from people.

When this is all over, why don't you tell us the approximate cost of the treatment. It might Sell some Health Insurance to us civilians. We don't have the kind of socialized medicine provided to military personell.

After this week, I wouldn't try to sell whatever I got considered "treatement" to dead man walking...

Most of the treatment, it seems I got, was drugs and more drugs. What a waste.

excelman: Tonsils coming out is moving up the "to do" list....I have had it....

Find a good doctor, and take a pill.

I think I finally found someone today who knows what he is doing.....He took one look at my throat, and went "yuck!! you have...." and gave me only 1 pill, and an elixor. I can't take any more pills. My throat is wasted. The other docs, well, none seemed older than 40. This ENT doc I saw today was at least 60, and I think Filipino. I see him again on Wednesday. TBH, and this is VERY cautious, I feel better already..and finally got to EAT something without throwing it up.

I tried Coke tonight...as a former addict of Coke, well, it didn't set to well for me tonight. This hideous disease ranks right up there with the black diarreah I caught during my first 2 weeks in Kuwait just over 4 years ago. At least with this disease, I don't have to worry about crapping my pants every 1 minute (yes, every ONE MINUTE)...and we had no laundry facilities at the camp....your laundry service was a bucket, some dissolvable in cold water detergent, water out of the water buffalo (trailer), your bare hands, and some 550 cord strung between tents...your dryer was the Kuwaiti winds and sun. With some sand to tell you when it was dry (it would fall off...).

I am reminded to convey my tremendous gratitude to you and other soldiers who lay your lives (and your crapped in uniforms) on the line for our country.

Glad you're better!
I read the other thread, I took it to be locked as though it wasn't the right sort of ITEM to post in the NEWS section... but I do hope you get better, it is sad that anyone feels so horrible.

Hang on... in time it will get better, and you will find the right doctor and the right treatment, and someday this will be just a horrid memory.

Ensure, Boost, or any of those helps with keeping the weight on when sick, Ed was right about that...

NOT BOOST. I have been on supplements since 2000 to maintain my weight. I am finally up to 177, with a target of 180. I used boost cause it tastes so good for about two months, I was not making progress, the doctor asked me if I was still consuming the 1000 extra calories a day he had prescribed. I said sure, I found Boost, and I drink 24 ounces a day.
Doctor said, "Boost contains an appetite suppresant. I'm surprised you don't fit under the door."
