DEFINITELY agree with this!
They SHOULD document things. And have the documentation, on some sort of timeline. For instance, on the site I admin. We have a system of warn, wack, suspend, and ban.......
We warn 3-5 times, sometimes (especially if it's silly nitpicking) we just tell people to be nice to one another, and maybe outline where they are going wrong. If it continues we send an actual warn to them. Outlining what was done, and why they recieved such a warning.
If they continue to violate, after the 3-5 (depending on severity here of course) we will wack their account. Wacking means they get a time out for the day. Like a suspension but not quite. It's to send a message that the person needs to act respectfully. If the continue. They then have been given every chance, they get a suspension up to a week in time. If they come back, and still are heckbent on causing trouble, they are THEN Banned.
Depending soly on the situation- the ban can be up to 3 months or permanent. We also have a system that you cannot join but with one account. There is no more making a new account for us. You get banned, you don't get to log in on another account on our site. *NOTE* The site I help with IS NOT affiliated with EVE or Times daily in any way whatsoever.
Each situation, the moderating and mediating is considered. Before we outright ban people, we try to give them every oppurtunity. We don't threaten or talk down to our members. We don't like to ban people- or warn them unless necessary because all people have a bad day somedays, and sometimes, unfortunately it's taken out on someone else. Online this happens frequently. On the site I help with, We work hard on a voluntary basis to make sure that it is enjoyable for all, as equal as possible and to help make it an enlightening, nice place to be.
HERE on the TD- I have Never seen any mod try to do any of the above, or have any structure to their punishment system. YES! It's easier to do nothing at all and let things run their course, but sometimes, people do need the structure in order for things to be smoother.
Without it, you have what you are seeing now. Someone that has taken their position and handled it in not the best ways. I don't know if it's pure laziness, or just that there has been no guidance whatsoever or training involved in communication. It sucks.
I used to love to chat here. Now, I dread even signing in. That's a shame to me.
However, there are many great people here, that if I don't chat with much anymore (if they aren't on the newer forum that is), then thank you for impacting my life in small or large ways. I wish you all well.
