Despite being located across the border from one of the deadliest cities in the world, El Paso is the safest large city in the United States, according to rankings released Sunday.

Though the city has been ranked in the top three each year since 1997, this is the first time El Paso has taken the top spot for having the lowest crime rate among cities of more than 500,000 population in the annual rankings by CQ Press, a publishing firm based in Washington, D.C.

Arizona officials must be lying or are making stuff up.

The question is, why is Texas so much safer than Arizona, in spite of Sheriff Joe??? Or, is the Arizona government just making up stories, like the Governor did during a debate, to gin up support for Repubs???

The gruesome case of a man who was stabbed and beheaded in a suburban Phoenix apartment has police investigating whether the killing is potentially the most extreme example of Mexican drug cartel violence spilling over the border.

Maybe she just knew what was coming. Politicians that rely on other people for info mispeak all the time. Of course had she been a liberal it would have been ok. Right?
The major point is old dog juan hunt blew it. He attempted to disparage Arizona and Sheriff Arpaio, but made himself look as foolish as Obama and his 57 state comment. Then, he tried obfuscation mentioning beheadings to cover for his mistake. I suspect juan is a product of the liberal public education system.

In 2006, while at Ft. Bliss, we were warned not to go into Mexico because of the danger. I and a number of other civilians and soldiers were being outfitted for a sojourn in Iraq.

As to why its now so safe in El Paso, I suspect this is the reason:

"Nearly all of the 110 miles of border fencing planned for West Texas and New Mexico have been contracted out at the cost of more than $220 million, a Department of Homeland Security official said Thursday.

Angela de Rocha, a Homeland Security spokeswoman, said the department has awarded 11 contracts for fencing in the U.S. Border Patrol's El Paso sector, which includes Hudspeth and El Paso counties in Texas and all of New Mexico."

That was about two years ago, I guess the fence is in place and working.
