Tyler Palmer is the son of Arnold Palmer, (no, not that one) who heads the department’s economic crimes bureau

Detectives found large amounts of cocaine and marijuana, according to an arrest report

The younger Palmer was arrested by the department’s internal affairs unit

Internal affairs detectives this week raided the house of a Miami-Dade police major and arrested his 20-year-old son on charges of dealing cocaine, marijuana and other drugs.

Tyler Palmer was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his father’s home in Southwest Miami-Dade, and remained jailed on Thursday evening.

His father, Miami-Dade Police Maj. Arnold Palmer, is listed on the department’s website as the major who oversees the economic crimes bureau. He was not arrested.

Whether the longtime major remains on active duty — and whether he had any idea about his son’s alleged drug dealing — remained unclear Thursday night. His son did not yet have a lawyer listed.
