Goins's "editorial" column this Sunday was hilarious! He was patting himself on the back for his correctness in his so-called predictions for 2006 and making more for 2007. I really don't give a rat's*** what Mike Goins predicts and rarely even know which side on his typewriter (more correctly wordprocessor, behind the times folks, remember I am old) BUT I do predict the TD will continue to be a fluff newspaper which will have reporters who sit on their A***ES waiting for someone to call in a story or listening to the police scanner, will not get to the bottom of what is really behind some of the most pressing issues in the Shoals: eg: unemployment, RSA, Veteran's Park, the backroom polotics at Florence City Hall, the income to debt ratio in this area, the high number of payday loan companies, the abuse by HUD officials of Section 8 housing and why this sudden push to resurface every road in town when we are building a road on a bridge to an industrial park that is supposedly useless, just to name a few. What do you folks think?

I agree with all of the above. Let us also add a little investigative reporting on the Alabama Music Hall of fametothe above list. I think the people of the Shoals deserve to know what David Johnson's salary is and how much money he actually has coming in to operate on. The TD always does well helping the HOF draw big crowds for their fund raising concerts, but the TD never tells us how much money is raised on these concerts.
The Music HOF is a publicly owned entity and is part of the Alabama school system. I suppose if you want to know those things a registered letter with return receipt requesting answers under the freedom of information act would draw some kind of response. Maybe not what you hope for, but at least start them thinking.
Well....Personally myself....Bringing Mr. Johnson into this discussion for one is a mistake. Has anyone done research on this man? I expect not. I have known him for quite sometime and never has he spoken bad words about anyone. But if it bothers you what his salary is why dont you call him and ask him. I think he would tell you. But dont talk about someone thats not here to defend themselves. David Johnson is a business man by all means. He makes mistakes. But if you would look into what he has brought to the Shoals area maybe you would not be so concerned about his living.
SOURCE: I won Roger and me, and it wouldbe a great inspitation for the so called "journalist" at the TD. I donated a copy to the Florence/Lauderdale Library but it came up "suddenly: checked out with no return. Just as I have Fahrenheit 911, Supersize Me, and Walmat: The High Cost of Low Prices. Wonder WO doesn't want controversial issues viewed or discussed in this town? Republican, Southern Baptists, The Anderson Brothers or The Times-Daily? THE DOG

And by the way; of you really are "the source", get off your lazy ass and do some INVESTIGATIVE reporting! The citizens of the Shaols are tied of "fluff" pieces. Shoe the actual number for subscirers; not the one's used incirculations to sell advertising, Has the TD not lost 10,000 sdubscribers in the last 10 years? WHY> Beacuse nobody cares about the "floff: pieces that are standard fare! If you can't do some real investigative reporting, I know thye have tenure and work for very little money, but FIRE Russ Corey and the like! This paper is a local joke, it didn't used to be, it was the source for local news and commentary and it needs an overhaul
Speaking of the total number Daily Disappointment(DD) subscribers, a friend of mine who ran for political office carried enough inserts to put one in each of the papers delivered in the district he was running for. After the insertion date they called and said they had had some left over for him to come pick them up. Needless to say when he got there he found a good third of the inserts were not used. The DD claims his printer must have ran too many (YEA Right) but were willing to give him a refund for those not inserted. Makes you wonder how much they're overcharging on all the other inserts.
Oh well, this was funny, but my BIGGEST complaint with TimesDaily is that they do NOT report enough local news.

They have a CRIMES section, they will report when someone is ARRESTED, but do they follow through??? NO they do not, that puts a stigma on those who are found innocent.

And the ones who are Guilty, most of the time we never hear whether they went to jail or not. Or people even accused, never hear how that comes out either...

We have to face it, there ARE innocent people accused and aquitted, and TD puts their arrest in there, but NOT their aquittal... wow, what a DIS-SERVICE to valued readers of this paper.
